Boyd returns from knee ailment to score for Rapid Wien in 1-1 draw with Red Bull.

(Thursday, September 5, 2013) -- After three weeks on the shelf with a separated shoulder, German-American striker Terrence Boyd returned to score a goal for Rapid Wien in a 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Boyd has four goals and two assists in the seven matches he has played this season.

U.S. midfielder Sacha Kljestan scored the opener for RSC Anderlecht in a 4-3 loss to Zulte-Waregem in a Belgium Pro League match that saw three players sent off.

Kljestan nearly posted another goal, but sent a shot off the crossbar in the second half.

In the English Premier League, U.S. forward Jozy Altidore was held out by Sunderland from a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace Saturday with what was described as a slight hamstring strain suffered in training.

Altidore is with the U.S. men in Costa Rica for Friday nights CONCACAF World Cup qualifier. It is an open question whether he will play.

American Geoff Cameron had a strong outing for Stoke City, going the distance and receiving a yellow card in the defensive midfield in a 1-0 victory over West Ham United.

U.S. midfielder Maurice Edu remains out following sports hernia surgery, while American midfielder Brek Shea has been out for more than a month with a knee injury.

U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard made a good early save for Everton in a 0-0 draw with Cardiff City.

American Brad Friedel was the backup keeper for Tottenham Hotspur, a 1-0 loser to Arsenal.

In the second-division English League Championship, American defender Eric Lichaj played 90 minutes and received a yellow card for Nottingham Forest in a 2-1 loss to Wigan Athletic.

U.S. defender Jonathan Spector went 90 minutes for Birmingham City, which drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town.

American defender Will Packwood, returning after breaking his left leg in four places on January 5, played 60 minutes in Birmingham City’s U-21 match over the weekend.

German-American Fabian Johnson played 90 minutes on the left side of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s defence in a 6-2 loss to VfB Stuttgart.

American midfielder Joe Gyau did not dress for Hoffenheim.

German-American Jermaine Jones, a bit in manager Jens Keller’s doghouse after being red carded in the 64th minute of FC Schalke 04's European Champions League play-in triumph over PAOK Thessaloniki, nonetheless was used for the final 12 minutes to help preserve a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

German-American defender Timmy Chandler played the final six minutes for 1. FC Nürnberg in its 1-0 loss to FC Augsburg.

U.S. defender Michael Parkhurst did not dress for Augsburg.

In the second-tier 2. Bundesliga, German-American midfielder Alfredo Morales played 90 minutes for FC Ingolstadt 04 in a 1-1 draw with Dynamo Dresden.

American midfielder Bobby Wood played the second half for TSV 1860 München in a 2-0 loss to SV Sandhausen.

German-American defender Andrew Wooten played the final three minutes for FC Kaiserslautern in a 2-2 draw with Energie Cottbus.

In Italy’s Serie A, U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley played the final 18 minutes for AS Roma in a 3-0 whitewash of Hellas Verona.

In France’s Ligue 1, U.S. midfielder Alejandro Bedoya played 90 minutes for FC Nantes in a 0-0 draw with Stade de Reims.

In the Netherlands’ Eredivisie, Icelandic-American striker Aron Jóhannsson played the final 19 minutes for AZ Alkmaar in a 1-1 draw with Vitesse Arnhem.

In Norway, American Steve Clark was in goal for Hønefoss BK in a 1-1 draw with Tromsø IL

American midfielder Mix Diskerud played 82 minutes for Rosenborg BK in a 2-1 victory over Aalesund.

American forward Ben Spencer made his professional debut playing the final 14 minutes for Molde FK in a 4-0 decision Vålerenga Fotball.

U.S. midfielder Josh Gatt had season-ending knee surgery for Molde.

In Denmark, newly-signed midfielder Conor O’Brien did not dress for Odense BK in a 6-3 loss to AGF Aarhus.

In Mexico’s Liga Bancomer MX, U.S. midfielders Michael Orozco Fiscal and DaMarcus Beasley went the distance for Puebla FC, a 1-0 winner over CF Atlante.

U.S. defender Edgar Castillo played 90 minutes for Club Tijuana in a 3-1 loss to Jaguares de Chiapas.

American forward Paul Arriola played the opening 13 minutes, while defender Greg Garza the final 28 minutes for Club Tijuana. American midfielder Joe Corona dressed but did not play for Club Tijuana, while striker Herculez Gomez remains out with a knee injury.

American midfielder José Torre played the first 84 minutes and received a yellow card for Tigres UANL in a 1-1 draw with Veracruz.

In Brazil, American midfielder Freddy Adu did not dress for Bahia in a 4-2 loss to Portuguesa de Desportos.
