After a short break for the FA Cup third round, the Premier League is back this weekend and so is FPL. Our gameweek 21 ones to watch drew a very rare blank. However, that gameweek 22 will be much better. Here are your latest ones to watch for the latest gameweek of FPL:
Neil Etheridge (Cardiff, £4.6m)
The Cardiff City goalkeeper is fast becoming an FPL favourite due to his penalty-saving heroics and his low price. In fact, the only goalkeeper to score more points than the Philippines international this season is Liverpool’s Alisson.
The Bluebirds have a very kind run of fixtures coming up, with four of their next five games ranking two on the fixture difficulty ranking. When it comes to value for money, Etheridge is delivering great value to his owners.
Cardiff host goal-shy Huddersfield at the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend, a game the Bluebirds are favourites to win. The encounter certainly offers the Bluebirds goalkeeper an opportunity to add to his points haul.
James Tarkowski (Burnley, £4.7m)
The Burnley defence this season has been awful, so Burnley’s usually solid defensive stars have been great FPL options. However, the recent return of goalkeeper Tom Heaton from injury has seen the Clarets concede just one goal in three games in all competitions.
Tarkowski at £4.7m could suddenly be a highly viable option. The defensive improvement coupled with his attacking threat on set-pieces means the centre-back is a good option.
The Clarets star has scored three times this season and produced an assist. He is also ranked third for most shots by a defender in the opposition penalty area. The visit of struggled Fulham to Turf Moor this weekend only adds to the potential for the defender.
Nathan Redmond (Southampton, £5.2m)
The former England under-21 international has been highly inconsistent throughout his career in the Premier League. The Saints have struggled for goals of late, but the arrival of Austrian boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has led to an increase in their attacking threat.
Redmond has is looking like he could prosper under the former RB Leipzig head coach. The winger has scored two goals in his last four top-flight appearances. A trip Leicester this weekend may look like a tricky one considering the Foxes recent form, but the Midlander’s are still vulnerable at the back, so Redmond could add to his recent haul.
Ashley Barnes (Burnley, £5.6m)
Barnes is another Clarets options for our ones to watch, as we see Fulham as a team who are likely to pick anything up from their trip to Turf Moor. The home sides form is slowly turning around and Barnes up front offers good value at £5.6m.
The experienced striker has started Burnley’s last seven top-flight games after being in and out of favour earlier in the season. He has hit a decent run of form of late, either scoring or assisting in three of his last four games.
Barnes is not a glamorous choice. However, he is in form and comes up against the worst away defence in the top-flight in the shape of Fulham this weekend. He looks like a great enabler to us.
