The Premier League campaign is now in the final stretch. However, there is much still to be decided at the top and the bottom of the top-flight table. Here are the games taking place in gameweek 30 of the campaign:
Saturday
Southampton v Tottenham (Kick-off 3 PM)
One of the 3 PM kick-offs on Saturday sees relegation-threatened Southampton host Tottenham at St Mary’s, in a game that could be crucial in the relegation battle and the race for the Champions League spots.
Southampton are 17th place in the top-flight table, just two points clear of the relegation spots after a run of three league defeats from four outings. The Saints have struggled defensively of late, conceding at least two goals in all three of those recent league defeats.
The team from the south coast have an inconsistent recent home record in the top-flight. However, the Saints winning just four of their last 25 league matches on home soil goes some way to explaining their poor league position. One clean sheet in nine home outings have also not helped their cause.
Tottenham’s title challenge has floundered in recent weeks, as Mauricio Pochettino’s third-place team have now failed to win in three top-flight matches. They did get back to winning ways in midweek with a 1-0 win at Dortmund in the Champions League, though. Last time out in the Premier League, the visitors drew 1-1 with Arsenal in the north London derby. Their recent struggles in the league, have seen the chasing pack move to within four points of the north London side.
Spurs have now lost their last two league matches on their travels, although they had recorded four straight away wins prior to the two losses. Tottenham will be big favourites to record a victory in this clash. However, the home side are fighting for their lives, so may prove to be a bigger obstacle than expected on the south coast.
Sunday
Arsenal v Manchester United (Kick-off 4:30 PM)
On Sunday, Arsenal and Manchester United clash at the Emirates Stadium, in a potentially crucial game in the fight for a Champions League.
The visitors are currently fourth in the top-flight table, a point clear of the home side in the race for that final Champions League spot. This game could shape the rest of the two teams’ campaigns.
Arsenal heads into this clash on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Rennes in the Europa League. However, the Gunners are four games unbeaten in the Premier League, having recorded three wins and a draw last time out at local rivals Tottenham. The home side also has a good recent home record in the top-flight, having won their last six Premier League games at the Emirates Stadium, scoring at least two goals in each win.
Manchester United will head into this crucial clash high on confidence after a 3-1 win at big-spending French team PSG in the Champions League that took them through to the quarter-finals of the competition. The match in the French capital saw United’s interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer record his 14th win from 17 games in charge of the Red Devils. The Norwegian is still unbeaten in the top-flight as United boss.
The visitors have been formidable opponents on their travels of late, winning their last six away games in the top-flight.
