Recent reports in the media suggested that Chelsea and Belgium star Eden Hazard had agreed a five-year deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, the winger has now moved to deny the reports he has agreed a deal with Los Blancos.

Hazard is quoted by Sky Sports, as saying: “There’s nothing in the reports. I’m only focused on tomorrow’s game against Cyprus. That’s all I’m thinking about.”

Future at Chelsea in doubt

Eden Hazard’s future at Chelsea has been the cause for speculation for a while now. There seems to be annual links to a move to Madrid. However, his contract situation at Chelsea suggests that he could be the closest he has ever been to leaving the Blues.

Hazard’s contract with Chelsea is due to expire in the summer of 2020 and the player has rejected their offers of a new deal, which leaves the Blues in a difficult situation. They will not want the Belgian international to go into the last year of his contract for the risk of losing him on a free.

However, the Blues may be facing a transfer ban, which would mean they are not able to sign a replacement if they decide to cash-in on Hazard this summer. The most likely scenario is that Hazard will leave the south west London and Madrid is a viable destination.

Real Madrid set for a rebuild this summer

Real Madrid have experienced a poor campaign by their high standards. Los Blancos are now out of the race for the Spanish title and have suffered elimination from the Champions League too.

The noises coming out of Spain claim that the club’s hierarchy will heavily back head coach Zinedine Zidane to rebuild the squad this summer. Hazard is reportedly one of the Spanish club’s main transfer targets in the Frenchman’s big rebuild.

However, since Hazard has been so often linked with a switch to the Spanish capital in recent years, it is hard to know what stories to believe and what are Chinese whispers.

No doubt, the forward would make a good signing for Real Madrid, who have lacked a talisman since the summer departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Hazard is the sort of player who could take up the Portuguese’s mantle as the main man for Los Blancos.

At times, the 28-year-old has been inconsistent at times for Chelsea. However, some of claimed that inconsistent form is due to complacency. A move to Madrid may just be what Hazard needs to kick up a level.

Favourites to sign Hazard

Hazard may be denying that a deal is already in place for him to leave Chelsea, but it is hard to see him staying at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer considering he has rejected numerous offers of a new deal with the Premier League outfit.

Reportedly Hazard sees a move to the Bernabeu as a dream one. Real Madrid are heavy favourites to sign the star this summer. The move would end years of speculation over a move to the Spanish capital.

It would be hard to claim that the move was not a good one for both Hazard and the Spanish club. It would be a crushing blow to Chelsea to lose their star player, especially if they are facing a summer transfer ban.

Will Eden Hazard be plying his trade in Madrid next season?
