According to the Daily Mail, Everton and Chelsea are both set to make £40million moves for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson. The 27-year-old has produced the best season of his Premier League career so far, firing home 13 goals for the Cherries, despite a few spells on the sidelines through injury.

His performances for the south coast club were always likely to attract the attention of more high-profile clubs. It seems that they have and Bournemouth may find it hard to keep the England international.

Everton and Chelsea both need strikers

Both Everton and Chelsea are in need of signing a striker, as both have failed to find an answer to their forward problems this season. At Chelsea, Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and Gonzalo Higuain have all struggled to convince this season.

Morata is now on loan at Atletico Madrid, while Higuain looks unlikely to make a permanent move to Stamford Bridge this summer after a lukewarm loan spell from Juventus. Giroud has just proven an expensive benchwarmer.

At Everton, big-money Turkish signing Cenk Tosun has struggled to justify his fee, while cult hero Oumar Niasse joined Cardiff on-loan. The most successful player in the lone striker role this season has been youngster Dominic Calvert Lewin.

Out of the six strikers mentioned, very few are rated as good enough to play for their respective clubs. Ironically, the youngster Calvert-Lewin is probably the most likely to succeed at his current club.

Is Wilson really an upgrade for either team?

I have to admit I really admire Wilson for working hard and creating a Premier League career for himself after such terrible injury problems. He has done very well in the English top-flight and to win England caps.

However, there is a worry that those injury problems may continue to plague his career. His injury problems have already hampered his career enough and could continue to hamper Wilson’s career.

Both Everton and Chelsea will be looking to upgrade their options this summer. The pair are ambitious and despite the Toffees current position in the table, the Merseysider’s have far bigger scope for improvement than Bournemouth. They can offer bigger wages, have a bigger transfer budget and will be looking to push up the table next season.

Whoever is in charge at Chelsea next season will be expected to land a Champions League position at least. Is Wilson good enough to play at the top level? It is unsure at the minute. At £40million, both teams would be taking yet another gamble on an expensive player, who may not live up expectations.

However, it seems the bookmakers believe that Chelsea are prepared to take that gamble, as the Blues are favourites to be the strikers next club.

Maybe Wilson should stay at Bournemouth

For all the talk of big moves to Chelsea and Everton, maybe Wilson would be better staying at Bournemouth and building on his success on the south coast. I doubt he is desperate to leave a club that has had such a big hand in his development.

Maybe Bournemouth is his level of team too. He has done well to establish himself at on the south coast, but he is not the perfect striker by any stretch of the imagination. He has his flaws and there is a feeling that both Everton and Chelsea probably have different summer transfer targets in mind.

Will Callum Wilson be on the move this summer?
