Without doubt one of the most high-profile players in the Premier League currently is Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The Frenchman catches the eye with his flamboyant off the field behaviour.
However, his performances on the pitch for the Red Devils have not always been as entertaining as his hairstyles or his dancing. In fact, the midfielder seems to divide opinion amongst Manchester United fans.
Has blown hot and cold at United
In truth, he has blown hot and cold at United since returning to Manchester from Juventus three years ago after a then world-record £89million move. He has enjoyed sensational spells of form where he looks set to start fulfilling his major potential as one of the best midfielders in the world game.
However, he has enjoyed spells of form in a red shirt where everything has gone wrong, or even worse still he has been completely invisible on the pitch. It is those invisible games that have prevented the Pogba from becoming a far better player.
The Frenchman has the qualities to be one of the worlds best, yet something holds him back. Something stops him producing the sort of form he produced in the early months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as Red Devils boss.
It is almost like he becomes disinterested in football when things are not going his way or his team’s way. The world’s best players drag their team at victory at times, they come up with big moments when the teams need them. Pogba has not done enough of that in his time in Manchester.
Rumours of a summer move
Pogba is reportedly in-demand. Sky Sports are reporting that former club Juventus are interested in resigning the midfielder this summer. United are believed to be aware of the Bianconeri’s interest and the Italian champions are the favourites to be Pogba’s next destination.
The midfielder also talked earlier this season about a move to Real Madrid being a dream. There could be major personnel changes in the Spanish capital this summer, with Pogba’s compatriot Zinedine Zidane looking to revive Los Blancos flagging fortunes after a poor campaign.
Either team would be a good move for Pogba at the minute, as Manchester United are in a huge transitional stage.
United squad needs a major overhaul
The current Manchester United squad is in major need of an overhaul. The club’s hierarchy are reportedly willing to back boss Solskjaer in the transfer market this summer. However, any moves in the market must comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
In short, they cannot just spend whatever they like in the summer, without balancing the books slightly. The sale of Paul Pogba would certainly bring in a big fee. He has not found the consistency to be the player that leads the team forward on the pitch.
If he is not on form, then he is not a player worthy of his massive wage. There is a feeling around this whole situation that maybe Manchester United fans would not be mortified by the sale. If the money is reinvested effectively on players in other positions, then selling Pogba may be a blessing in disguise.
We all know how good Paul Pogba can be on his day. However, unfortunately for Manchester United, he does not have enough of those days. They cannot afford to carry passengers, as the team is simply not good enough.
Will Paul Pogba leave Manchester United this summer?
