The premium striker in FPL now seems to have taken a backseat to the premium midfielders on offer in many people’s FPL teams. In fact, many bosses are deciding to go without a premium striker at the start of the campaign, something that would have been unheard of in previous campaigns. However, there are still some strong premium striker options out there. Here are some of those options:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal, £11million)
The Arsenal striker shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane after scoring 22 times in the English top-flight. The Gabon forward also produced seven assists and picked up an impressive 32 bonus points, as he finished as the highest scoring striker in the game last season
No doubt the Dortmund forward will always score goals and his price is not ridiculous for a striker of his potency in front of goal. The Gunners have a difficult start to their Premier League campaign, as they face Liverpool and north London rivals Tottenham in the opening four gameweeks.
Aubameyang is highly consistent when it comes to producing points, though, so he cannot be completely overlooked by FPL bosses. It could be wise to wait until later in the season to pick the prolific star.
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City, £12million)
The experienced Manchester City striker has been the very definition of consistency in recent years in front of goal. Aguero scored 21 goals last season, while also producing 11 assists and picking up 26 bonus points.
The only striker who scored more points than the Argentinian was the aforementioned Aubameyang. However, the Arsenal star played more minutes last season than Aguero.
City have a bit of a mixed start to their campaign. However, Aguero is the sort of striker who scores against any quality of opposition. He is a truly prolific marksman, having scored 20-plus goals in the last five Premier League campaigns.
Just like Aubameyang, it would be foolish to overlook Aguero as a possible FPL asset. Like every season, there will be a point in the campaign where Aguero will feature heavily in many teams, despite the absolute plethora of top premium midfield options. City are a formidable attacking force and Aguero is one of the favourites to claim the Golden Boot next season.,
Harry Kane (Tottenham, £11million)
The Tottenham and England forward endured a poor campaign by his very high standards. However, the forward still scored 17 goals and six assists in the Premier League. His performances yielded 24 bonus points.
However, taking into account he played for England at last years World Cup and missed games through injury, his record is not terrible. A fully-fit and rested Kane could well be back with a bang this season.
Prior to last season, Kane had scored 20-plus goals in his previous four seasons in the Premier League. I doubt many will be backing against the England international repeating that feat this season. The striker should hit the ground running with home games against Aston Villa and Newcastle in the opening three weeks of the season.
