The Premier League reaches gameweek two this weekend, which means another one to watch article. We have to admit our picks for gameweek one did not produce great results. However, as with every season, the early weeks of the campaign are relatively unpredictable. We are back with our ones to watch for gameweek two. Here are our four picks:
Adrian (Liverpool, £4.5m)
An injury to Liverpool first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker has presented summer signing and number two Adrian an early chance to impress in the Reds goal.
Alisson’s injury also gives FPL bosses the chance to pick up a Liverpool defensive option for just £4.5million. The Spaniard had proven to be a pretty reliable option for West Ham in past seasons. However, he failed to make a single appearance for the Hammers last season.
Liverpool face a trip to Southampton this weekend, a game Jurgen Klopp’s side will be favourites to win, while Adrian will be confident of a first clean sheet in a Liverpool shirt.
Yerry Mina (Everton, £5.5million)
The big Colombian international endured a stop-start campaign last season in his first campaign on Merseyside. Injuries and the form on-loan Kurt Zouma limited his starts. However, he did show signs of his ability in his limited appearances for the Toffees. The former Barcelona centre-back enjoyed a solid Copa America campaign.
He also produced a very good display in the Toffees goalless draw against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the campaign. He picked up a clean sheet and also earned maximum bonus points.
Not only does he promise clean sheet points, but he can also be a threat at the other end of the pitch, as he showed for his country during the last World Cup. The Toffees have a favourable run of five games ranking three or less before a home game with Manchester City starting with a home game against Watford this weekend. Mina’s price of £5.5million could prove a shrewd investment over the next few weeks.
John McGinn (Aston Villa, £5.5million)
The Scottish midfielder played a key role in the centre of the park for the Villans last season, scoring seven goals and producing nine assists as Dean Smith’s team won promotion from the Championship. McGinn has already opened his Premier League account scoring against Tottenham on the opening weekend in a 3-1 defeat. He was one of Villa’s better performers in north London.
Villa embark on a run of four fixtures numbering just two in the FPL difficulty starting with a home game against Bournemouth this Saturday. At £5.5million, the 24-year-old looks like a potential bargain.
Anthony Martial (Manchester United, £7.6million)
The French winger has blown hot and cold since his arrival at Manchester United in 2015 from Monaco. However, Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown he can get the best out of the attacking talent.
Martial made a good start to the campaign by scoring in the Red Devils 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford. United have a relatively kind run of fixtures over the next few weeks. However, a trip to Wolves next Monday could prove to be a testing one.
