According to the Daily Mirror, PSG and Barcelona are in negotiations for Brazilian superstar Neymar. As we all know the forward has been constantly linked with a switch back to the Catalan club this summer.
Neymar reportedly wants the move, as do the two clubs. However, it is believed that the two clubs have yet to come to an agreement, but are not far off in terms of getting the deal done. Reports suggest that Barcelona could initially sign the forward on a season-long loan deal worth around £31million before making a permanent switch for £154million next summer.
The forward moved to the French capital in 2017 from Barcelona in a world-record £200million deal. It seems he could now make the reverse move this summer.
Neymar enjoyed the best spell of his career in Catalonia
Without a doubt, the 27-year-old enjoyed the most successful spell of his career at Barcelona. He helped the Catalan giants win the big trophies like La Liga and the Champions League while enjoying very good relationships with fellow South American’s Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
He only left Barcelona in the summer of 2017 to get out of the massive shadow of Messi. A move to Paris should have helped him do that. The problem was that French starlet Kylian Mbappe moved to PSG the same summer and ended up taking a lot of the glory at the French club.
Neymar has enjoyed a successful time on the pitch in Paris. However, from the outside it seemed that he never got the ego boost he thought he would by moving to the French capital.
Catalan giants already have immense attacking talent
While Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele are currently sidelined through injury, they will return to the team in the near future. Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann is up and running after grabbing a brace in the weekend 5-1 win over Real Betis.
That means Barcelona already have three quality forwards, that is not including Dembele, who has been hit and miss in that bracket. Suarez and Messi are in their early thirties, so maybe the Catalan club are planning for the future.
However, this season how is Ernesto Valverde going to fit Messi, Suarez, Neymar and Griezmann into his starting eleven? He is unlikely to play all four players, so somebody is likely to miss out. That will mean a top-quality player left on the bench or the sidelines kicking his heels. Dembele will also want game time, that is, of course, he does not become a makeweight in Neymar’s move.
Barcelona red hot favourites to sign Neymar
It is being reported in various newspapers and online that Neymar prefers a return to Barcelona than a move to Real Madrid or Juventus. The pair have both been linked with a move for the Brazilian forward. However, Barcelona remain the red-hot favourites to sign Neymar.
There is no doubt about it, Neymar is an extremely talented footballer. However, he comes with major baggage and an ego the size of a house. Whether Barcelona complete this deal or not remains to be seen. However, maybe taking everything into consideration, it may not be a great move for the Catalan giants.
