On Saturday evening, Everton host Manchester City at Goodison Park, as the home side attempt to get back to winning form after a poor run of form in the top-flight.
Everton odds of 9/1 for victory
Everton head into this clash as massive underdogs to get anything out of the game. The Toffees are usually strong at home, so the fact that they are odds of 9/1 shows how badly they have been playing in the top-flight of late, and the quality of their opponents.
It has to be said that the Merseysider’s did at least arrest their slump with a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup third round. Their recent Premier League outings have seen the Toffees suffer three defeats in their last four.
Their last loss a 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United was a particularly poor result, as Marco Silva’s team had won their previous six league games at Goodison Park. The Toffees have also still maintained a respectable record of six clean sheets in their last eight Premier League games on home soil.
That record is sure to be tested by the visitors, especially as the home side has conceded at least two goals in their four outings.
Manchester City odds of 10/3 for victory
The visitors look to be back in form after an 8-0 hammering of Watford in the top-flight last week and a 3-0 win at Preston in midweek in the Carabao Cup. The Citizens are already five points behind league leaders Liverpool, so can ill-afford too many slip-ups in the Premier League.
Despite some early season hiccups, Pep Guardiola’s team have still won 18 of their last 20 league matches, suffering just one defeat in the process. They have also retained a serious eye for goal, as the visitors have scored at least twice in their last seven league outings.
A 3-2 defeat at Norwich in their last away game in the Premier League, ended a nine-match winning run on their travels. Still, winning nine of their previous ten away matches is still a very creditable record for the visitors. Unsurprisingly, City have been prolific on their travels in the top-flight, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight away matches in the Premier League.
Another big positive for the Citizens making the short trip to Merseyside is that they have beaten Everton in the last three meetings, while also scoring at twice in all three victories.

If City were facing Everton in the sort of form they were producing towards the end of last season, then the Toffees would prove a far bigger obstacle. However, the Merseysider’s recent performances have been terrible.
We cannot see anything other than an away win. However, at odds of 10/3 offers no real value at all. The over 3.5 goals may represent a decent punt at odds of 11/10, as City are prolific and Everton have been woeful in defence of late.
Even both teams to score at odds of 4/5 is not a terrible bet. The Toffees tend to score on home soil, while City are obviously prolific in front of goal.
Verdict: Back the over 3.5 goals at 11/10 and/or both teams to score at 4/5.
