On Wednesday night, two of the giants of international football meet at Signal Iduna Park, as Germany host Argentina in a prestigious international friendly. The clash is a warm-up for the home sides qualification games for Euro 2020.
Germany (Odds of 4/5 for victory)
Die Mannschaft’s fortunes in the international game have improved in recent games after a poor spell before and after the 2018 World Cup. Head coach Joachim Low has refreshed his squad and recent results show that the move has been a positive one.
The home side has now won four of their last five games, with all those games being in qualifying for the aforementioned Euro 2020. Low’s side has got back to their prolific best too, scoring at least two goals in all four recent victories. In fact, they have scored at least twice in their last five internationals, even in defeat against the Netherlands.
The 4-2 reverse against the Netherlands in their last home outing ended a run of eight games without a defeat on home soil for Germany. Once again, Low’s team have a pretty potent recent record at home, having found the net at least twice in five of their last six home matches. The home sides high-scoring way have led to five of their last six home games producing over 2.5 goals.
The home side are favourites to record a victory in this clash, despite the absence of full-back Jonas Hector and the influential central midfielder Toni Kroos due to injury. Nadiem Amiri and Suat Serdar will be hoping for international debuts after decent starts to the domestic campaign.
Argentina (Odds of 14/5 for victory)
The visitors head into this clash on the back of a mixed recent record in the international. However, the South American giants have won four of their last six international matches, while losing just once in seven games. Last time out, Lionel Scaloni’s team recorded a 4-0 win over Mexico in another international friendly.
The visitors like their hosts have been relatively prolific in the international game, scoring at least two goals in four of their last six matches. They have also kept clean sheets in four of their last six international matches.
Argentina have failed to win in their last two away games. However, they have won four of their last six matches on their travels, suffering just one defeat in the process. They have however been solid in decent of late on their travels, keeping clean sheets in six of their last seven away games.
Scaloni has decided to name a relatively young squad. The likes of Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero have all been left out of the squad, most likely to give Scaloni a chance to experiment with the younger players.

Germany have named a very strong squad compared to the visitors, who are obviously looking to try out some less experienced players in this clash. We are backing the home win at 4/5. Both sides still have immense attacking options, despite the absentees for the home side, so we are also backing the over 2.5 goals at odds of 3/ 4.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 3/ 4 and over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 3/ 4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
