Prediction and odds for the game: Barcelona (8/15) v Dortmund (19/4) Back the over 2.5 goals at odds of 1/ 2.
When: Wednesday 27th November 2019, Kick-off 8 PM
Where: Nou Camp
On Wednesday night, Barcelona host Dortmund at the Nou Camp, in a game that could be crucial in deciding who qualifies for the knockout stages of the Champions League from Group F.
Barcelona
The Catalan giants head into this group as favourites to qualify and top the group. The reigning Spanish champions may still do so, but it has not been all plain sailing for Ernest Valverde’s team. Wednesday’s opponents and Slavia Prague have both held the Catalan giants to draws in the group.
The result of the home side winning just two of the group games means that the fight for qualification is still very much alive. Barcelona are a point ahead of Dortmund in second place, with Inter third -place on four points.
Barcelona heads into this game in decent form and have won five of their last eight Champions League matches. Their last two defeats have been in the latter stages of the competition against Roma and last season Liverpool.
The Catalan giants have won 30 of their last 34 Champions League games at the Nou Camp while remaining unbeaten. They have also failed to score just once in their last home games in Europe’s elite competition, which came last time out in that aforementioned draw with Slavia Prague.
Dortmund
After a good start to their campaign, Dortmund’s recent form has been highly inconsistent of late. A 3-3 draw at home to struggling Paderborn on Friday night rather sums up BVB’s form of late.
Dortmund have a poor recent record in this competition, winning just three of their last nine matches in the Champions League. Rather unusually for free-scoring Dortmund, they have failed to score in six of their last nine games in this competition.
Last time out in the Champions League Lucien Favre’s team did manage to register in a 3-2 win over Inter. BVB do have the attacking talent to cause the home side problems, including former Barcelona forward Paco Alcacer.
Dortmund’s recent away record in the Champions League is a poor one, as the German visitors have won just three of their last 12 outings on their travels in Europe’s elite competition.
Although their away form may not have been spectacular, there have been at least two goals scored in six of BVB’s previous seven matches in the Champions League. With the two teams on show that record is likely to continue in this clash.
Conclusion
Barcelona have not been at their best of late and were rather fortunate to beat Leganes at the weekend. However, when it comes to playing European games at the Nou Camp, the Catalan giants usually turn up. The draw last time out was a very rare slip up on home soil. We expect Valverde’s team to come out on top in this clash.
We are backing the over 2.5 goals scored, simply as both teams are better in attack than defence. An outside punt would be to back the draw/Barcelona half time/full-time at 7/2, as the home side have not been winning at half time in both their last two home games in Europe this season.
Verdict: Back the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/ 2 or (slightly more of an ambitious punt) back the draw/Barcelona in the half time/full-time market at odds of 7/2.
