Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (19/10) v Leicester (13/10)

We are going for a slightly risky one and backing the home win.

When: Wednesday 18th December 2019, Kick-off 7:45 PM

Where: Goodison Park

On Wednesday night, high-flying Leicester face a trip to Everton’s Goodison Park in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Everton

The mood around the Everton camp has dramatically changed since the interim appointment of Duncan Ferguson as the Toffees interim boss. The Toffees have picked up a 3-1 win over Chelsea before gaining a point from a 1-1 draw with in-form Manchester United at Old Trafford at the weekend.

The draw at United was even more impressive considering that the Toffees were down to the bare bones when it came to players. Whether any of the Toffees walking wounded will be fit for this game is unknown.

However, what is known is that the Merseysider’s will give a hundred per cent for their team and boss. Everton have already eliminated Lincoln City, Sheffield Wednesday and Watford in the Carabao Cup. High-flying Leicester will be a different prospect though. However, the Toffees were unfortunate not to draw against the Foxes a few weeks ago, going down 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester

The Foxes have been the surprise package in the Premier League this season. Brendan Rodgers team are second place in the table, but head into this clash on the back of a disappointing 1-1 home draw with struggling Norwich last time out. The draw ended a winning run of nine games in all competitions for the team from the Midlands.

Although the Foxes have still been winning games of, there are just slight signs that they are not winning matches as comfortably as they would have earlier in the season. The aforementioned recent match between these two sides at the King Power Stadium is a good example of that slight dip in performance.

Leicester have already seen off Newcastle, Luton and Burton Albion in the previous rounds. Rodgers has rotated his squad in the previous rounds of the competition. Finishing in the top-four is obviously Leicester main priority this season. However, with the team so close to the last four of the League Cup, and a potentially difficult encounter at Goodison Park, it will be interesting to see what sort of starting eleven the Foxes boss picks for the clash.

Conclusion

This is a difficult game to judge, as Everton still have a number of players missing due to injury. However, the Toffees showed that even with players they are still a team with plenty of heart and quality. That is why we are taking a punt on a home win. The fact Leicester may also field a rotated squad should also help the Toffees.

With doubts over who will line-up in defence for the Foxes, we are also backing Everton forward Richarlison to be an anytime goalscorer. The Brazilian has scored three times in his last four league appearances for the Toffees. He also scored in the last round against Watford.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 19/10 and/or Richarlison to be an anytime scorer at odds of 11/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
