Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (7/5) v Manchester United (9/5)
We are backing the draw at odds 12/5
When: Saturday 04th January 2020, Kick-off 5:31
Where: Molineux Stadium
On Saturday evening, Wolves host Manchester United in the FA third round at Molineux in an intriguing encounter.
Wolves
The home side have experienced mixed fortunes of late in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team head into this game on the back of just two wins in their last six games in the English top-flight. Despite their recent poor run of form, the side from the Midlands are still seventh place in the table, just a point behind the visitors, who are fifth-place.
With the home side nicely placed in the table, they can switch off from their quest for a top-six finish this weekend for this cup tie.
The team from the Midlands have a decent recent record in the FA Cup, as they made the semi-final last season, only to suffer a 3-2 extra-time defeat against Watford.
Wolves also have a decent recent home record in the FA Cup, as they are unbeaten in four matches, having won their last three home games in the competition. Their last home defeat in the competition came in a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea back in 2017.
Manchester United
The visitors have proven frustratingly inconsistent of late. Last time out the Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal, which means they have now won two and lost two of their previous four outings in all competitions.
Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s team have been particular inconsistent on their travels of late, where they have won just two of their last seven games in all competitions.
United’s main priority this season is obviously a return to the top-four and booking their place in the Champions League for next season. However, I doubt anybody at the club would turn their nose up at winning silverware this season.
The visitor’s recent record in the FA Cup is a mixed one, but they have won five of their last eight games. However, last season the visitors suffered a 2-1 defeat at Molineux in the fifth round of this competition.
The Red Devils have found Wolves difficult opponents of late, as United have failed to win in four meetings with the team from the Midlands. Not only did they suffer that FA Cup loss at Molineux last season they also lost 2-1 in the league at Wolves.
Conclusion
This game is difficult to judge, as both teams have been unpredictable at times this season. United can be brilliant, but then they can fail to show up at times too. Wolves have been similar in recent games.
With inconsistency in mind, we are backing the draw at odds of 12/5. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals scored at 4/5, as both teams have the potential to be dangerous in attack.
Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 12/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds taken from Bet365).
