Prediction and odds for the game: AC Milan (4/7) v Sampdoria (5/1)
We are backing the home win
When: Monday 06th January 2020, Kick-off 2 PM
Where: San Siro
On Monday afternoon, two out of form teams meet at the San Siro, as the AC Milan host Sampdoria.
Milan
The Rossoneri are experiencing a poor campaign in Serie A, as they are now 11th place in the Italian top-flight. A 5-0 defeat at Atalanta means that Stefano Pioli’s team have won just twice in their last seven league outings.
Prior to the mauling in Bergamo, the home side had produced a four-game unbeaten run in Serie A. This clash gives them the ideal opportunity to get back to immediately get back to winning ways.
The Rossoneri’s recent Serie A outings have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six matches.
The San Siro was a fortress in Milan’s glory years. However, those glory years seem so far away, as the current team have won just once in seven home matches in Serie A. However, three of their last five league games have finished all square. The Rossoneri have failed to score in just two of their last 16 league outings at the San Siro.
Sampdoria
The Blucerchiati are enjoying a woeful campaign in Serie A. The visitors are currently just a point clear of the relegation zone after a poor recent run of form.
A 2-1 home defeat by reigning champions Juventus last time out means that the visitors have suffered defeat in four of their last five games in Serie A. Their recent games have been relatively high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six matches in all competitions.
A major reason for the visitor’s lowly position in the league table is that they don’t score enough goals. In fact, they are the third-lowest scorers in the Italian top-flight this season behind, with only SPAL and Udinese having scored fewer league goals.
Sampdoria’s away form seems to be improving, as Samp has won two of their last three matches on their travels in Serie A. However, their form on the road needed improving, as the two wins are their only away victories in 12 matches.
Once again conceding too many goals has been their biggest problem on their travels in Serie A, as they have conceded at least twice in 16 of their last 20 games in the Italian top-flight.
Conclusion
Neither of these teams will be happy with their performances in the first half of the campaign. However, Milan showed some improvement prior to their implosion against Atalanta, so we are backing the Rossoneri to edge a narrow victory.
Both teams have struggled in front of goal of late, so we are also backing this game to produce under 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 4/7 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
