Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (19/20) v Wolves (3/1)
We are backing the home win
When: Wednesday 15th January 2020, kick-off 7:45 PM
Where: Old Trafford
On Wednesday night, Manchester United host Wolves at Old Trafford in an FA Cup third-round replay. The first game between the pair produced a lacklustre goalless draw.
Manchester United
The Red Devils have been wildly inconsistent of late, as they can produce brilliant displays, but also suffer poor defeats. A 4-0 win over Norwich on Saturday in the Premier League ended a three-game winless run in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
The home sides recent form has been more consistent, as United have won five of their seven matches at Old Trafford in all competitions. Solskjaer’s team have also been lethal in front of goal on home soil of late, scoring at least twice in eight of their last ten home outings.
United, unsurprisingly, have an inconsistent recent record in the FA Cup, winning three of their last six games in the famous old competition.
However, the Red Devils have been highly consistent on home soil in the FA Cup in recent years, winning their last six home games, while scoring at least two goals in each victory.
One slight negative for the side is that they have failed to defeat Wolves in the last five meetings in all competitions.
Wolves
The visitors are just three points behind the fifth-place hosts in the Premier League table. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have been nearly as inconsistent as the Red Devils.
The team from the Midlands heads into this clash on a winless run of four games in all competitions. Last time out they drew 1-1 at home against Newcastle in the Premier League. The result means that three of their last four competitive games have produced under 2.5 goals.
Wolves have struggled for victories away from home of late, winning just two of their last nine matches on their travels in all competitions.
The visitors have been hard to beat in the FA Cup of late, as they are unbeaten in seven games over 90 minutes in the competition. They did suffer a 3-2 extra-time defeat against Watford in last season’s FA Cup semi-final though.
Wolves have a poor recent away record in this competition, having won just three of their last 12 away games in the FA Cup. The fact that they have failed to win in their last ten visits to Old Trafford, suffering eight defeats does not bode well for an away win.
Conclusion
These two teams are so inconsistent at the minute. This game could go either way. However, we feel the victory over Norwich last time out will swing it United’s way. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals, as United have been relatively potent in front of goal of late at Old Trafford.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 19/20 and or over 2.5 goals at odds of 19/20 too. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
