Prediction and odds for the game: Watford (9/4) v Tottenham (11/10)
We are backing the draw
When: Saturday 18th January 2020, kick-off 12:30 PM
Where: Vicarage Road
On Saturday lunchtime, Watford host Tottenham at Vicarage Road, as the home side look to move further away from the relegation zone.
Watford
The Hornets have been in good form of late, as the appointment of Nigel Pearson as head coach has revival the team. The home side are five games unbeaten in the Premier League, having recorded four victories in the process.
A 3-0 win at Bournemouth last time out in the top-flight means that Pearson’s team have now scored at least two goals in four of their last five league outings. The victory at the Vitality Stadium moved Watford out of the relegation zone, although they are still a point above the danger zone.
The Hornets are unbeaten in their last four league outings at Vicarage Road, having won recorded three straight home victories. The home team have been prolific of late, scoring at least two goals in their last three league matches on home soil.
One negative for Watford is that the Hornets have won just one of their last 14 meetings with Tottenham in all competitions, suffering nine defeats in the process.
Tottenham
Jose Mourinho’s team are in the midst of a poor run of form that has seen the north London team record just one victory in their last five Premier League outings. A 1-0 home defeat against Liverpool in their last top-flight match means that Spurs have now suffered back-to-back defeats in Premier League, suffering three defeats.
It is fair to say that Mourinho’s honeymoon period as Tottenham boss is well and truly over. The recent poor run of form has led to Spurs slipping to eighth-place in the table and nine points adrift of the Champions League spots.
A lack of goals without injured star striker Harry Kane has been a big factor in the recent poor form, as Spurs have scored just four times in their last five league matches.
Tottenham have a truly woeful away record for a team that has finished in the Premier League’s top-four on a regular basis, as they have won just two of their last 17 games on their travels in the English top-flight. Their recent away games in the league have at least offered good entertainment when it has come to goals, as nine of their last 11 matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
Conclusion
Watford are on a high at the moment and a home win cannot be ruled out in this clash. Tottenham meanwhile has struggled for results of late in the Premier League.
However, the Hornets seem to have a mental block when it comes to beating Tottenham, which is why we are backing the draw. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals, as recent meetings between these two teams have been relatively high-scoring and Watford have looked dangerous in attack in recent weeks.
Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2 and or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
