Prediction & odds for the game: West Ham (15/2) v Liverpool (1/3)
When: Wednesday, 29th January 2020 @ 7.45pm K.O
Where: London Stadium
West Ham United will attempt to become the first team to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season when they meet at London Stadium.
West Ham
The Hammers are still lingering towards the relegation zone but ever since David Moyes returned to the club, it’s felt like the fans have been able to get behind their side a little bit more than usual. Of course, they’re going to have to rely on every ounce of luck and fortune imaginable to get a result in this game, but under the light in front of London Stadium is as good of a place as any to really make a statement to the rest of the teams around them.
The 4-0 battering of Bournemouth and the 2-0 win over Gillingham in the FA Cup seemed to mark a turning point as Moyes got his second tenure as manager off to a great start, but their controversial 1-0 loss against Sheffield United immediately brought them back down to Earth. They went on to draw 1-1 with Everton before suffering back to back losses against Leicester in the Premier League and West Brom in the FA Cup.
Liverpool
Liverpool have the chance to go 19 points clear at the top of the Premier League table this week which, in itself, is surely enough of an incentive for them to go out there and really put on a show against West Ham United. Jurgen Klopp will almost certainly put his best foot forward and field a really strong starting XI, because they’ll know how valuable a game in hand is at this point in the season. It’s going to be tough, but this is a huge opportunity for the Reds.
Liverpool have been just about perfect as of late with wins over Sheffield United, Everton, Tottenham, Manchester United and Wolves, which was seen as being quite a difficult stretch for them. When they faced Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, though, the third tier side held them to a 2-2 draw to force a replay.
Conclusion
West Ham are probably going to be quite conservative in how they start this game, given how well Liverpool are able to control the ball, but letting themselves go and really throwing everything against the wall should absolutely be their preferred strategy heading into Wednesday night. Alas, that’s like suggesting you should go in there and just blindly throw at Deontay Wilder in the first round at this stage – which is why we’re backing a comprehensive Liverpool victory.
With that victory will come quite a few goals for Klopp’s men, which is why we’re backing the over 2.5 goals threshold.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 1/3 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/15. (All odds are taken from bet365).
