Prediction & odds for the game: Liverpool (11/10) v Shrewsbury (9/4)
When: Tuesday, 4th February 2020 @ 7.45pm K.O
Where: Anfield
Liverpool will face off against League One side Shrewsbury Town in an FA Cup fourth round replay at Anfield later this week.
Liverpool
When you’re 22 points clear at the top of the table it can be hard to stay motivated, but beyond that, it seems like the major concern that Jurgen Klopp has is the winter break. He’s definitely in favour of it as a concept, but the fact that he probably isn’t even going to be on the touchline for this game showcases what he thinks about the nature of the FA’s scheduling. The FA Cup isn’t at the forefront of their minds, and yet even with that being the case, many will fancy them to win comfortably on Tuesday.
The draw against Shrewsbury a few weeks back was the only time Liverpool haven’t tasted defeat since early January. They edged out Tottenham, comfortably beat Manchester United, beat Wolves in their hardest game of the season so far and walked to victories over West Ham and Southampton.
Shrewsbury
They’re not doing so well in the league but right now, Shrewsbury Town fans aren’t going to care one bit about that. Everyone has been talking about their exploits in the initial draw against the Premier League leaders, and there’s a real chance they could cause the upset in this one. The trip to Anfield alone will serve as a huge moment in their campaign, but they can’t afford to be intimidated by this team – regardless of what kind of squad they put out.
The big win over Bristol City was a huge moment for the Shrews in the third round, but they haven’t had a whole lot of luck aside from the victory and the draw against Liverpool. They picked up a point against Lincoln and Fleetwood, too, but have suffered back to back losses against Gillingham and Rochdale.
Conclusion
This is going to be an inexperienced Liverpool team with a few first teamers sprinkled in there, and if the initial tie is anything to go by, that should lead to an incredibly fun game. We do believe Jurgen Klopp wants to go further in the FA Cup, but it’s not exactly a priority for them this season. The Shrews are going to have their moments that they’ll come to rue missing, but in the end, Liverpool will win the game as they have been able to do against pretty much everyone this season.
The action itself will be pretty entertaining but we don’t picture a goalfest, which is why we’re shooting for the under 2.5 goals market. Still, that shouldn’t persuade you against tuning in.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 11/10 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/10. (All odds are taken from bet365).
