Prediction & odds for the game: Tottenham (4/6) v Southampton (4/1)
When: Wednesday, 5th February 2020 @ 7.45pm K.O
Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton will attempt to navigate their way towards the fifth round of the FA Cup in their replay this week.
Tottenham
While some fans may not like the system or even respect it, there’s no way of avoiding just how impactful Jose Mourinho’s style can be. Whether or not it can take this club to the top four once again remains to be seen, but there are definitely reasons to believe that they’re in perfect position to do so. They’ve made a few changes during the January transfer window, they’re going well in the Champions League, and they’ve got the potential to beat literally anyone when they are playing to their full potential.
The narrow loss to Liverpool was largely viewed as a disappointing result, as were the draws against Watford and Southampton – with the latter being the initial fourth round tie. However they did beat Middlesbrough in the third round and Norwich in the Premier League, and at the weekend, they shocked a lot of people by beating Manchester City 2-0.
Southampton
The Saints have come marching in over the last few weeks with Ralph Hasenhuttl making it crystal clear that they are going to be contending for a place in the top half at the very least this season. Alongside the likes of Jurgen Klopp, he’s proving to be the sort of manager that showcases the need for new gaffers to be given the time to really change the direction of the club they’re taking over. Whether or not this ‘honeymoon’ period of sorts will last is a different matter altogether.
Southampton have also tasted defeat to Liverpool, but even at 4-0 it wasn’t too demoralising for them. They also lost a tight game to Wolves and, of course, held Spurs to a draw in the FA Cup. Aside from that they’ve been on a bit of a tear which includes wins over Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and most notably Leicester City.
Conclusion
This game is going to serve as another notable struggle for Tottenham as they attempt to push into the next round of the competition, but this time, we do think they’ll be able to edge out the Saints. We can see the visitors getting on the scoresheet an even controlling the pace of the game, but under someone like Jose Mourinho, you’d think Tottenham will be capable of overcoming them. It may not be pretty but it’s the sort of win Spurs need at this stage of the season.
We do believe there will be a few goals for us to enjoy, which is why we’re backing the over 2.5 goals market.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 4/6 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from bet365).
