Prediction and odds for the game: Brighton (evens) v Watford (13/5)
We are backing the home win
When: Saturday 8th February 2020, Kick-off 5:30 PM
Where: The AMEX Stadium
On Saturday evening, Brighton host Watford at the Amex Stadium, in a vital match at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Brighton
The Seagulls have been comfortable for much of the Premier League season. However, they now look set for a fight against relegation, as Graham Potter’s team is just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Things would have been much worse for the visitors if they had not clawed by a 3-1 deficit to rescue a 3-3 draw at 18th place West Ham last time out. The draw will have felt like a victory. The comeback will certainly send the Seagulls into this clash in good form.
The visitors will be hoping that the draw leads to an improvement in results, as they have failed to win in five league matches, having won just once in ten Premier League matches. The fact that Brighton has kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 outings has not helped the Seagulls chances of steering clear of the relegation zone.
The team from the Midlands have a poor recent home record in the top-flight, as they have won just four of their last 17 home in the Premier League.
Watford
The Hornets experienced a new boss bounce after the appointment of Nigel Pearson as their head coach. After an initial improvement under the former Leicester boss, the honeymoon period is over after a poor run of results.
A 3-2 home defeat against a ten-man Everton last time out means that the Hornets have now failed to win in three league outings, having suffered back-to-back defeats.
The recent poor results have hampered the visitor’s chances of escaping the relegation zone. However, the Hornets are just two points from safety. A victory would move Watford level on points with the home side in the table.
The Hornets have been poor travellers of late in the English top-flight, winning just two of their last 13 league matches on the road. The team from Hertfordshire have also lost four of their last six league games on their travels, conceding at least two goals in each of the four defeats.
The visitors need to find their feet in front of goal, as only Crystal Palace has scored fewer than Watford in the Premier League this season.
Conclusion
Both of these teams are in poor form heading into this potentially vital clash. However, the way in which Watford lost a two-goal lead against Everton last time out is particularly concerning. Brighton, on the other hand, will be buoyed by coming back from two goals down at West Ham, which is why we are backing the home win.
We are also backing the over 2.5 goals, as both teams have looked vulnerable in defence of late.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at evens and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at also at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
