Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (2/5) v RB Leipzig (11/2)
We are backing the home win
When: Sunday 09th February 2020, Kick-off 5 PM
Where: The Allianz Arena
On Sunday evening, reigning German champions Bayern Munich host challengers RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena, in the game of the Bundesliga weekend.
Bayern Munich
The Bavarians are in red-hot form after a lacklustre start to their defence of the German top-flight title. In fact, Bayern are now top of the Bundesliga table, a point clear of RB Leipzig, who currently occupy second place. However, there is also only three points between the leaders and fourth-place Dortmund.
A 3-1 win at Mainz last time out means that Bayern have won their last six league matches while scoring at least twice in all of the wins. They have also won their last eight games in all competitions after a 4-3 midweek cup win over Hoffenheim.
Hansi Flick’s team have been strong on home soil of late in the German top-flight, winning five of their last six league matches at the Allianz Arena. Bayern have unsurprisingly scored at least twice in those five home victories.
Striker Robert Lewandowski has been on fire this season in the Bundesliga, scoring an incredible 22 goals in 20 appearances. Having scored five goals in his last four outings for Bayern in all competitions, the Polish striker will be confident of adding to his goal tally in this clash.
The men from Munich have won their last three home games against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Leipzig have had players sent off in the last two league meetings at the Allianz.
RB Leipzig
Julian Nagelsmann’s team must be feeling like the title is slipping away. The visitors have taken just a point from their last two Bundesliga games, including a thrilling 2-2 draw with title rivals Monchengladbach last time out in the Bundesliga.
Despite their relatively poor form of late, Die Roten Bullen have remained prolific in front of goal, scoring at least twice in ten of their last 11 Bundesliga matches.
One big reason for Leipzig’s scoring prowess is the form of Germany international Timo Werner, who has 20 Bundesliga goals in as many games. Only opposition forward Lewandowski has scored more league goals in the Bundesliga this season.
RB Leipzig’s recent away form has been inconsistent. Nagelsmann’s team has won just three of their last seven league matches on their travels in the Bundesliga.
Conclusion
Without doubt, Bayern are in far better form than the visitors, who face the Bavarians at a bad time. That is the main reason we are backing the home win. Bayern are back to their best. It would be hugely surprising if this game did not produce a lot of goals, as both teams have been full of goals in recent months. That is why we are also taking a punt on over 3.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 2/5 and/or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
