When: Friday 1st May 2020, Kick-off 2 PM
Where: The Stadyen RTsOP-BGU
On Friday afternoon, Energetik-BGU and Smolevichi clash in the Belarussian top-flight, as both teams look to get back to winning ways.
Energetik-BGU
The home side could not have had a more inconsistent start than they have to the new Belarus Premier League campaign. They made a superb start, beating BATE Borisov, Ruh Brest and Minsk. Since the trio of wins things have gone massively downhill for Vladimir Belyavskiy’s team.
In fact, they are now on a run of three straight defeats after a 3-0 defeat against Neman Grodno last time out. The game saw the home side once again fail to find the target, as they are now three games without a goal in the top-flight of Belarussian football. Their lack of attacking firepower has led to four of their last five league games producing under 2.5 goals.
Energetik had a good recent home record in the Premier League until a 1-0 home defeat against Gorodeya in their last league outing on home soil. Before the loss, the home side were unbeaten in six home games, having recorded five wins. They have also been prolific on home soil in the top-flight of late, scoring at least twice in six of their last seven home games.
Smolevichi
The visitors have endured a difficult start to the new league campaign in Belarus. They have failed to win any of their six league games in season 2020/21, picking up just three draws and suffering three defeats. Last time out in the top-flight they suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Dinamo Minsk. The poor start to the current campaign only mirrors their form in their last spell in the top-flight back in 2018. Smolevichi have now failed to win in their last 14 games spanning their two most recent seasons in the Premier League.
Up to the defeat against Dinamo last time out, their league matches had been tight, and void of many goals, as their first five matches in the Premier League had all produced under 2.5 goals.
When it comes to away games, Smolevichi’s story is a tale of woe, as they have failed to win any of their last eight top-flight matches on their travels. Their recent trips away in the top-flight have not proven fruitless, though, as four of those five winless games have finished in draws.
One positive for the visitors is that they have beaten Energetik in their only two meetings in the Belarus Premier League.
Conclusion
Both sides have been underwhelming of late in the league. However, Energetik’s general good home record swings in favour of backing the home win. The home sides recent league games have been low-scoring, as have the visitor’s recent away games in the league. Therefore, the other recommendation we are making is to back under 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at evens and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/2. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
