Prediction and odds for the game: Werder Bremen (17/10) v Eintracht Frankfurt (29/20)
We are backing the home win
When: Wednesday, 3rd June 2020, Kick-off 19:30
Where: The Weserstadion
On Wednesday night, Werder Bremen host Eintracht Frankfurt in what could be a massive game in the fight for survival in the Bundesliga.
Werder Bremen
The Green and Whites fortunes have changed of late, as Florian Kohfeldt’s team are now within touching distance of safety. Werder are still 17th place in the German top-flight table but are now just two points behind Fortuna Dusseldorf in the relegation spot, and maybe even more importantly just three points from the safety of 15th Mainz. This is Werder’s game in-hand on the teams around them.
The home side head into this game on the back of a three-game unbeaten league run, including two wins and a draw. They have also kept clean sheets in all three of those unbeaten matches.
Werder will be determined to put right a woeful recent home record in the German top-flight, as they have failed to win in their last 11 matches on home soil, losing seven of their last eight home matches in the league. However, with their recent turnaround in fortunes, they will be confident of ending that poor recent home record.
Eintracht Frankfurt
The Eagles ended a poor recent run of league form last time out by recording a surprise 2-1 win at Wolfsburg. The win ended a five-game winless run consisting of four defeats and one draw and was much-needed, as Adi Hutter’s team were dropping dangerously close to the relegation play-off spot. However, the visitors are now five points clear of 16th place. A defeat here could drag them right back into trouble.
Frankfurt’s recent league games have been goal-filled of late with over 2.5 goals scored in the visitors last eight Bundesliga matches. A big factor in those recent high-scoring games has been that the visitors have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven league outings. Frankfurt have also kept just two clean sheets in their last 20 matches in the German top-flight.
The win at Wolfsburg ended a four-game winless run on their travels for Frankfurt, including a run of three straight away defeats in the Bundesliga. Like their recent league games in general, the visitors away matches have been high-scoring of late, with over 2.5 goals scored in their last four matches on their travels.
Conclusion
Both these teams look to have experienced upturns in fortunes of late. Werder are now looking solid defensively and a different team to the one that struggled so badly before the break. We fancy the home side to record another positive result to move out of the relegation zone. The recent improvement at the back has been key to the home sides good results, so we are also taking a punt on under 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 17/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
