Bayern Munich’s pursuit of yet another Bundesliga title will continue this weekend as they travel to face Bayer Leverkusen.

From year to year it’s been pretty difficult to get a solid read on where Bayer Leverkusen are at as a club, and as the weeks go on, it just gets harder and harder. They’ve got a great base of young talent combined with a passionate fanbase and a great structure, but for whatever reason, they continue to fall short when it comes to competing with the big boys. If they want to make a real statement and lay down the law to the rest of the league, the visit of the champions is as good of a chance as any to do just that.
Leverkusen were on a good run of form heading into the Bundesliga’s suspension, picking up a 4-0 win over Frankfurt and a 3-1 first leg win over Rangers in the Europa League. The went on to batter Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach when the league returned, before running into a surprising 4-1 defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg. Thankfully for them, it didn’t take them long to get back on track as they edged out a 1-0 win over Freiburg.
Bayern Munich
Many felt as if the kings of German football had lost their touch coming into the campaign, but ever since the league resumed after lockdown, it’s become clear that they’re better than they have been in a long time. They’ve got the kind of momentum that is all but guaranteed to guide them back to yet another title, with many feeling like the focus of the club will turn towards the potential return of the UEFA Champions League. As such, there’s also some concerns that complacency could play a role in the Bundesliga.
Winning is the exclusive result in Munich right now for one of Europe’s true top dogs. Before the lockdown they beat Schalke in the DFB Cup and Augsburg in the league, and in May, they went on a perfect run of four wins over Union Berlin, Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund and Dusseldorf.
Conclusion
Leverkusen have the sort of creativity in their ranks that should make Bayern nervous, but given their form, we don’t think it will. We’re expecting this to be a bit of a wild game with both sides getting their shots in, but in the end, there’s only one way we can see it going: a Bayern win. They’re just so strong in every department and with the Bundesliga being the only set of fixtures on their calendar right now, they can happily stretch their legs and walk towards another championship.
With a crazy game should come a crazy volume of goals, and as such, we’re backing the over 2.5 goals market.
