Prediction and odds for the game: Burnley (14/1) v Manchester City (1/8)
We are backing Riyad Mahrez to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10
When: Monday, 22nd June 2020, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Etihad Stadium
On Monday night, Manchester City host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, in a game that may mean very little in the context of this seasons Premier League.
Manchester City
The race for the Premier League title seems all but over for the reigning champions, with leaders 22 points clear at the top of the table. Jurgen Klopp’s team could move one step closer to their first title in 30 years if they beat arch-rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby this evening.
City returned to action after the break with a comprehensive 3-0 home win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night. The victory means that Pep Guardiola’s team has lost just ten of their last 77 matches in all competitions.
More recently the Citizens have won three of their last four games in the English top-flight, having kept clean sheets in all three victories.
City have turned the Etihad Stadium into a fortress in recent seasons, as they have won eight of their last ten home matches in the Premier League. Guardiola’s team have been prolific in recently on their own patch, scoring at least two goals in nine of their last ten league outings.
Another positive for the home side is their recent record against the Clarets. Guardiola’s team are unbeaten in nine matches against the visitors in all competitions, having recorded eight wins.
Burnley
Sean Dyche’s team heads into this clash on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the English top-flight, having recorded four wins and three draws. The good run of form has moved the visitors away from the relegation zone and into the safety of midtable.
A return to solid defensive foundations has helped Burnley of late, as they have now kept clean sheets in four of their last six league matches, conceding just twice in the process.
Burnley’s recent away form in the Premier League could not have been more inconsistent, as they have won three, lost three and drawn one of their last seven games in the English top-flight.
Their recent away games in the Premier League have been relatively low-scoring, as there have been under 2.5 goals scored in four of the visitors last six league games on their travels.
Conclusion
Even if City boss Guardiola decides to rotate his squad and Burnley are a stubborn opponent, it is hard to see anything other than a home win. However, that offers very little value. Instead, we looked at the anytime goalscorers, with Riyad Mahrez standing out. We are backing the Algerian to get on the scoresheet at any point in the game.
The other bet we are backing is the draw at half-time/Manchester City victory at full-time. As we previously stated the Clarets can be stubborn opponents and we believe it offers decent value.
Verdict: We are backing Riyad Mahrez to score anytime at odds of 11/10 and/or draw at half-time/Manchester City win at full-time at odds of 10/3.
