The reigning champions are currently a point ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have a game in-hand later today against Barcelona’s city rivals Espanyol. A draw would be enough to take Los Blancos back to the top of the table because of their superior head-to-head record in the home games with the home team.

The win put the visitors in a good position when it comes to potential qualification for next seasons Champions League.

The visitors are undefeated in their last five away matches in the Spanish top-flight. However, Atletico have won just four of their last 13 away games in La Liga, with draws tending to be their biggest problem. Atleti’s recent league matches away from the capital have been low-scoring, with 14 of their last 16 games producing under 2.5 goals.

Barcelona know that the title race is now out of their hands and all they can do is win their games and hope that Real Madrid slip-up. The champions have not been at their best of late.
