Prediction & odds for the game: Sheffield United (3/1) v Tottenham (19/20)
When: Thursday, 2nd July @ 6pm K.O
Where: Bramall Lane
Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur will both attempt to claw their way back into the race for European football when they meet on Thursday night.
Sheffield United
While the last few weeks have been somewhat turbulent for Sheffield United, nobody can deny how impressive they’ve been in their first season back in the Premier League. Chris Wilder has been able to guide the Blades towards a brighter tomorrow, to the point where qualifying for the UEFA Europa League seems like a serious possibility for them. The main focus now will be to steady the ship and get back on track, because the lockdown break certainly doesn’t appear to have done them any favours.
It’s safe to say that things could’ve gone better for Sheffield United since the restart, with the problems starting after they were somewhat screwed out of a win against Aston Villa in the first game back. Since then it’s been all downhill, as they were humbled 3-0 by Newcastle before suffering another 3-0 loss to Manchester United. In their most recent outing, they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho will be the first man to admit that things haven’t exactly gone to plan since his arrival in North London. While some are of the belief that he needed a full summer in order to turn the fortunes of the club around, he has to work with what he’s got – and right now, things are looking pretty shaky. If they fail to pick up three points in Yorkshire tomorrow night, serious questions will be asked regarding his ability to take the club in a positive direction both this season and beyond.
Tottenham’s first game back after the restart was an underwhelming one, because while they did pick up a point in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, fans weren’t overly impressed with the manner in which they surrendered their lead. Thankfully for Spurs supporters, they were able to bounce back with a 2-0 win over West Ham.
Conclusion
This is bound to be an entertaining clash between two teams who are desperate to get their European push back on track. We’re expecting the Blades to be slightly anxious coming out of the gate, especially given Wilder’s recent comments about individual errors costing the team. Tottenham, on the other hand, need to be composed, and they need to pick their moments – because they can’t just assume this is going to be an easy ride due to United’s recent form. We think it’ll be entertaining, with the visitors narrowly edging out the win.
Fans should expect goals in this one and we certainly are, which is why we’re backing the over 2.5 goals market.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 19/20 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5. (All odds are taken from bet365).
