Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (2/7) v Burnley (17/2)
We are taking a punt on draw/Liverpool at odds of 3/1
When: Saturday, 11th July 2020, Kick-off 15:00
Where: Anfield
On Saturday afternoon, newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool host in-form north west rivals Burnley at Anfield.
Liverpool
Although Liverpool have already claimed the Premier League title, Jurgen Klopp’s team are unlikely to take their foot off the peddle, as the Reds aim to beat Manchester City’s record points tally of 100 points in a season.
The Merseysider’s recorded a 3-1 win at Brighton last time out to move on to 93 points in the Premier League. The victory on the south coast means that the home side has now won three of their last four league outings while scoring at least two goals in each of the victories.
Surprisingly, considering their fearsome attack, Klopp’s team only has the second-best attack in the top-flight, with former champions Manchester City top-scoring this season. However, the Reds do have the best defensive record in the English top-flight.
Liverpool have once again turned Anfield into a fortress, as they have won their last 24 home matches in the Premier League. They have also scored at least twice in their last seven league outings on home soil. At the other end of the pitch, the Reds have also kept clean sheets in seven of their previous nine league matches at Anfield.
Burnley
The Clarets have hit form of late in the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s team are unbeaten in four league matches, having recorded three victories in the process. Last time out they recorded a 1-0 win at West Ham. The win has put Burnley right in the thick of the race to secure European football for next season.
The West Ham game saw the team from Lancashire keep their third clean sheet in four top-flight outings. The visitors last four league games have been tight, low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in each of the matches.
Burnley have a relatively strong recent away record in the Premier League of late, as they have won four of their last six league games on their travels, including their last two league matches on the road. The visitors have also managed three clean sheets in their last four matches away from home. That record is certainly in for a stern test at Anfield.
Conclusion
We are expecting Liverpool to record a victory in this clash. However, Burnley are likely to make it a scrappy and are renowned for their defensive discipline. With that in mind, we have decided to take a punt on under 2.5 goals scored. The other bet that seems to offer value is draw/Liverpool to win. While neither of the bet looks like obvious ones, they will give a decent return if you brave enough to back them.
Verdict: We are backing draw/Liverpool at odds of 3/1 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
