Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (7/5) v Chelsea (2/1)
We are backing Manchester United to win
When: Sunday, 19th July 2020, kick-off 18:00
Where: Wembley Stadium
On Sunday evening, Manchester United and Chelsea go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium in the second FA Cup semi-final.
Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are finishing the campaign in strong fashion, with January arrival Bruno Fernandes a big influence on the Red Devils improvement in 2020. The men from Manchester have played themselves into the race for the Champions League spots in the Premier League. They now only trail fourth-place Leicester on goal difference.
While finishing in the top-four is no doubt United’s biggest priority, winning silverware would be a bonus for Solskjaer in his first full season in charge of United. However, they do have another chance of lifting a trophy, as they are still in the Europa League.
United heads into this game on an unbeaten run of 19 games in all competitions. They have also won six of their last seven competitive matches.
After seeing of top-flight rivals Wolves in the third round, United have progressed to the last four pretty comfortably beating Tranmere, Derby and Norwich.
Another positive for Solskjaer’s team going into this clash is that they have beaten Chelsea in the previous three meetings in all competitions. They have also scored at least twice in five of their last six meetings with the Blues in all competitions.
Chelsea
Just like Manchester United, Chelsea are involved in the race for the top-four. Frank Lampard’s third-place Blues are just a point ahead of Sunday’s opponents in the fight for a place in Europe’s elite competition next season. The Blues priority is also top-four, but Chelsea have a great affinity with the FA Cup, as they have won the trophy on eight occasions.
A trophy and a top-four finish in Lampard’s first season as Blues boss would be a good result for the former Derby head coach.
Although Chelsea’s most recent form has been slightly inconsistent, they have won eight of their previous ten matches in all competitions. Last time out they recorded a narrow 1-0 win over already-relegated Norwich City.
When it comes to the FA Cup, they have beaten Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Liverpool and Leicester. It could be argued that they have had a tougher route to the final than their opponents.
Conclusion
No doubt these are two of the best teams in England and both could be playing Champions League football next season. However, we believe that United have the momentum to come out on top, which is why we are backing the victory.
The Red Devils have been sparkling in attack with the quartet of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood highly effective in front of goal. With that in mind, we are also backing Martial to be an anytime scorer, as the Frenchman has scored three times in his last four appearances for United.
Verdict: We are backing Manchester United to win at odds of 7/5 and/or Anthony Martial to be an Anytime goalscorer at the same odds. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
