Prediction and odds for the game: Croatia (13/5) v France (21/20)
We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10
When: Wednesday, 14th October 2020, Kick-off 19:45
Where: The Stadion Maksimir
On Wednesday night, Croatia host France at the Stadion Maksimir in Group A3 of the Nations League. The game is a repeat of the 2018 World Cup final, that saw the visitors record a 4-2 to be crowned world champions.
Croatia
The home side has been slightly inconsistent of late in the international game, as although they have won their last two outings against Switzerland and Sweden, they had lost their previous two matches against Portugal and Wednesday’s opponents.
Croatia’s recent games have at least guaranteed goals of late, as their previous six international matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Both teams have also scored in their previous seven outings.
Zlatko Dalic’s team does not have a great record in the Nations League, as they have won just two of their previous seven games in the newly-formed competition. In fact, their 2-1 win over Sweden ended a three-game losing run for Croatia in the Nations League. However, they are unbeaten on home soil in their three games in the competition, having recorded two wins and a draw.
France
The world champions head into this clash on the back of an 11-game unbeaten run, consisting of nine wins and two draws. Last time out Les Bleus were held to a goalless draw on home soil by European champions and current Nations League holders Portugal.
Didier Deschamps have enjoyed mixed fortunes in the fledgeling competition. However, they have lost just one of their previous seven games. They have also won four of their last six games in the competition.
Despite their status as world champions, France have a highly inconsistent away record in the Nations League, winning just one of their matches on their travels in the competition. The fact that Les Bleus have scored in just one of their games on the road in the Nations League is likely a big factor in those poor away results.
France’s recent away record, in general, is good though, as Deschamps team have won five of their last six games while suffering just one defeat. Four straight clean sheets on their travels have been the key to the good form on the road.
Another positive for France is that they are unbeaten in the last three meetings with Croatia. The last of which came in the reverse fixture when Les Bleus claimed a 4-2 victory.
Conclusion
Although Croatia have not been that consistent of late, they tend to be strong on home soil. We can see this being quite an even game, so we are backing the draw. The other bet we are backing is both teams to score, as the two teams have highly capable attacks.
Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10 and/or both teams to score at odds of 5/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
