Prediction and odds for the game: Marseille (8/1) v Manchester City (1/3)
We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/5
When: Tuesday, 27th October 2020, Kick-off 20:00
Where: The Orange Velodrome
On Tuesday night, Marseille host Manchester City at the Velodrome, as both teams look for a potentially crucial in Group C of the Champions League.
Marseille
The French side head into this clash on the back of a five-game unbeaten run in Ligue One. However, they opened their European campaign in Group C with a 1-0 defeat at Greek side Olympiakos. The defeat in Greece continued an absolutely horrendous run of form for OM in Europe’s elite competition.
The loss means that the home side has lost their previous ten matches in the Champions League. The game at least stops a trend of Marseille conceding at least two goals, as the home team had conceded at least two goals in their nine previous outings in the competition.
Defensive issues have plagued their games in European football’s elite competition, as OM have kept just one clean sheet in their previous 13 Champions League matches. Marseille have never faced Manchester City in Europe. However, they may take heart from compatriots Lyon eliminating the Citizens in last season’s competition.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s team have experienced a mixed start to the new campaign. A 1-1 draw at West Ham last time out means that City have won just five of their eight games in all competitions. That record may seem like a decent one for most teams, but it is not a good one by the standards set by peak Guardiola City teams.
Two clean sheets in their opening eight matches of the campaign have not helped the men from Manchester to pick up positive results. However, at the other end of the pitch, they have failed to score just once in their previous 16 competitive games.
Manchester City won their opening Champions League group game of the season, beating Porto 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium. The victory means that the Citizens have lost just one of their previous 11 games in the competition while recording eight wins in the process. City have been prolific in that 11 match run, scoring at least two goals in eight of their matches.
City received a boost by the return from injury from the bench of Kevin De Bruyne last time out in the West Ham draw. However, it remains to be seen if the Belgium international will start this game.
Conclusion
Manchester City are big favourites to come out of this game on top and should have enough quality to get past the home team. The away win does not offer great odds, so instead we are backing both teams to score and Kevin De Bruyne as an anytime goalscorer, as we do believe that there will be goals in this game.
Verdict: We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/5 and/or Kevin De Bruyne to be an anytime goalscorer. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
