Prediction & odds for the game: Istanbul Basaksehir (7/1) v Manchester United (4/11)
When: Wednesday, 4th November @ 5.55pm K.O
Where: Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium
Istanbul Basaksehir and Manchester United will clash on Wednesday night as the UEFA Champions League group stage continues.
Istanbul Basaksehir
It’s been a questionable start to the season over in Turkey for Istanbul Basaksehir and when you’re coming off the back of such a successful campaign, that can be a hard pill to swallow. They appear to be doubting their own ability to carry out the mammoth expectations that now rest on their shoulders and when you’re walking amongst the giants in the Champions League, there can’t be a shred of doubt in your mind – because otherwise, you’ll be punished.
A 0-0 draw against Goztepe was seen as below par back at the start of October, but thankfully for Istanbul, they bounced back with a nice 2-0 win over Trabzonspor. They came up short in an entertaining 2-0 defeat to Leipzig in the UCL before battering Antalyaspor 5-1, but again, they came up short against PSG in a 2-0 defeat before heading into this game off the back of a 2-1 win over Konyaspor.
Manchester United
Many believe that the managerial position at Old Trafford will soon be up for grabs and when you take one look at the state of the squad and some of their results this season, it’s not hard to understand why. United were once considered to be the greatest team in world football under Sir Alex Ferguson, but ever since he left the post, things have been a little bit more difficult for the club – and there’s no sign that it’ll change anytime soon.
The 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur humbled Manchester United in more ways than one, but things did seem to be looking up throughout the remainder of October. They battered Newcastle, edged past Paris Saint-Germain and avoided defeat against Chelsea. The 5-0 triumph against RB Leipzig seemed to be the cherry on top, but once November hit, they came crashing back down to reality with a 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
Conclusion
For whatever reason United have been able to thrive in the Champions League in comparison to the Premier League, and we’re expecting that trend to continue. Istanbul will put up a fight and the fact that they’re on home soil shouldn’t be ignored, but the UCL is serving as a welcome distraction from domestic football for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer right now and he’ll be desperate for that to continue. If they play to their full potential, they should have no problems whatsoever in securing all three points.
We’re backing the Red Devils to win fairly comfortably at 2-0, ensuring this game rests in the under 2.5 goals bracket.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 4/11 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 (All odds are taken from bet365).
