Prediction & odds for the game: Wolves (13/10) v Southampton (9/4) – ST is backing the draw
When: Monday, 23rd November @ 8pm K.O
Where: Molineux
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton will meet in a fascinating Monday Night Football clash to round off this weekend’s Premier League action.
Wolves
It wouldn’t be harsh to suggest that Wolverhampton Wanderers aren’t the same team they were last season – if only because of the changes within their squad. Their killer instinct isn’t quite on the level that it’s been since their return to the Premier League, and as a result of that, many are starting to undervalue what they can still bring to the top flight. If they want to try and prove a point, beating a team like the Saints would be a great way to do it.
The 4-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham really did put things into perspective for Wolves, and in their next outing against Fulham, they were more than happy to grind out a 1-0 win. They then did the same thing against Leeds before a comfortable 2-0 success against Crystal Palace, but in the midst of all that, they’ve also suffered disappointment in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle and 1-0 defeat to high-flyers Leicester.
Southampton
We’ve said it for weeks now but it’s worth repeating: Southampton fans must’ve known something we didn’t before the campaign got underway because they’ve been feeling confident since before a ball was even kicked. This is a club that hasn’t often been viewed as top six contenders but after eight games of the new season, many believe they are in with a very good chance of disrupting the status quo.
The sun truly is shining on the South Coast right now and their record as of late proves that. They beat Burnley 1-0, beat West Brom 2-0, fought against adversity to draw 3-3 against Chelsea and stunned Everton in a 2-0 win to finish off October. Since then, they’ve been able to grind out a thrilling 4-3 win over Aston Villa before comprehensively defeating Newcastle United.
Conclusion
This is going to be an exciting game if only to see how the styles of these two teams will mesh together. Wolves are great at controlling possession whereas Southampton like to come forward and really get in your face. We’re expecting the hosts to do something similar to the game against Newcastle – they’ll take the lead after working incredibly hard to keep the Saints out, but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men will manage to edge out a fortunate goal to claim a point.
With our official scoreline prediction being 1-1, we’re going to be backing the under 2.5 goals market at Molineux.
Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 9/4 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6 (All odds are taken from bet365).
