Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (15/8) v PSG (7/5)
We are backing the home win
When: Wednesday, 2nd December 2020, Kick-off 20:00
Where: Old Trafford
On Wednesday night, Manchester United and PSG go head-to-head at Old Trafford in one of the biggest games of gameweek five of the Champions League.
Manchester United
The Red Devils are in control of the group after winning three of their four games in the group. Their performance so far in Group H means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team need to pick up just one draw in their final two games to book their place in the knockout stages of European football’s elite competition. However, those two games are against their two rivals for qualification in Wednesday’s visitors and German team RB Leipzig next week.
United will be confident of picking up the point they need to make it to the last-16 of the Champions League. Their recent form has been strong, as United have now recorded four straight wins in all competitions after a weekend 3-2 win at Southampton. The men from Manchester produced a far from perfect display in that game, though, as they needed to come back from two goals down to rescue the win.
Ironically, former PSG star Edinson Cavani stepped off the substitutes bench to grab a brace in the match against the Saints. The Uruguayan will be hoping to start this clash against his former employers.
PSG
The French giants are level on points with Leipzig, both trailing United by three points. The head-to-head record between the French and German side is close, as they both won their respective home matches against each other.
The Parisians recorded a 1-0 win over Leipzig in their last Champions League game, while Julian Nagelsmann’s team had won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena. Thomas Tuchel’s team are ahead Leipzig courtesy of a superior goal difference.
PSG do not head into this clash in the greatest form, as a 2-2 draw against Bordeaux last weekend means that the Parisians have won just two of their last five matches in all competitions. Things have certainly not been plain sailing for the PSG of late.
They have personnel problems too, as the key players like Neymar, Marquinhos and Mauro Icardi are all injury doubts. Juan Bernat, Julian Draxler and Thilo Kehler also look set to miss out through injury. Those potential absentees could be a key factor in this clash.
Conclusion
Manchester United may finally have found some consistency to their game of late, having recorded those four straight wins. PSG on the other hand are not in the best place right now and could be vulnerable with those potential key absentees. With that in mind, United look good value to record a home win. We do believe that this one will produce goals. Therefore, we are also backing over 2.5 goals scored.
Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 15/8 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of over 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
