Prediction and odds for the game: Milan (1/3) vs Celtic (7/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Thursday, 3rd December 2020, Kick-off 17:55

Where: The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

On Thursday evening, Milan host Celtic at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Group H of the Europa League, as the home team look to move a step closer to qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

Milan

The Rossoneri have enjoyed a fantastic start to their campaign, as Stefano Pioli’s team are top of the Serie A table, five points clear of second-place Inter in the Italian top-flight. The men from Milan are certainly enjoying something of a renaissance this season, which has extended into their Europa League campaign.

However, the Italian giants have not been as impressive in their European campaign as they have Serie A. Pioli’s team are second place in Group H, a point behind leaders Lille and just a point ahead of third-place Sparta Prague. A win would take the Rossoneri within touching distance of the knockout stages.

The home side has taken just a point from their last two Europa League games, though, with Lille proving to be tough opponents for the home side. However, Milan are four games unbeaten in all competitions and will fancy their chances of another victory in this clash.

Celtic

The Hoops head into this game in uncharacteristically poor form. A 2-0 home defeat by Ross County last time out means that Neil Lennon’s team have now won just two of their last ten competitive matches. The poor form has lead to question marks over the future of Lennon as head coach. However, the club’s hierarchy has recently given the former Leicester boss a vote of confidence. He will be in charge of this clash and this weekend’s league match against St Johnstone.

This was always going to be a difficult group for Celtic to make the last-32 to from. A measly one point from their four matches is a poor return, even if they were seen as underdogs to Milan and Lille.

The most disappointing recent results were the back-to-back 4-1 defeats against Sparta Prague, who some considered the weakest team in a tough group. The defeats mean that Celtic have little to no chance of now making the knockout stages of the competition.

Unsurprisingly, the visitors have struggled for wins in European football’s secondary competition, winning just two of their last nine matches in the competition.

Conclusion

There is no comparison between these two teams form of late, even if the home side team’s form is not as relentless as their early-season outings, the Rossoneri are still in decent shape. We are backing the home win and also over 2.5 goals scored, as both Milan and Celtic’s recent games have been high-scoring.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 1/3 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/9. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
