Prediction and odds for the game: Burnley (16/5) v Everton (17/20)
We are backing over 2.5 goals at evens
When: Saturday, 5th December 2020, Kick-off 12:30
Where: Turf Moor
In the Premier League’s early kick-off, Burnley host Everton at Turf Moor, as both teams look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
Burnley
The Clarets have endured another slow start to a top-flight campaign. Sean Dyche’s team has picked up just five points from their nine Premier League games this season, winning just once in the English top-flight.
Last time out the home team suffered a 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City. The mauling ended a run of two-straight clean sheets in the top-flight. The Clarets had also picked up four of their league points in the two matches before the trip to the Etihad Stadium. The defeat wasn’t unexpected, so the Clarets want hope to get back to winning ways in this clash.
One issue that is a concern for Burnley is the lack of goals. The home team has scored just four goals in the top-flight this season, failing to score in five of their last six Premier League outings. No team in the English top-flight has scored fewer goals than the north west outfit.
Burnley have won two of the last three meetings with Everton at Turf Moor, although the Toffees did have players dismissed during both the games.
Everton
Carlo Ancelotti’s team head into this clash on the back of four defeats in their last five Premier League matches. However, due to their strong start to the league campaign, a win would take the Merseysider’s into the Champions League spots, temporarily at least.
The poor run of form has coincided with injuries to key players. The visitors have been playing without captain Seamus Coleman in recent weeks, who could miss out again. His fellow full-back Lucas Digne is also set for two months on the sideline due to injury.
Their absences have been felt in recent games, as the Toffees looked hugely unbalanced last time out in a 1-0 home defeat Leeds. Ancelotti decided to field midfielders Alex Iwobi and Tom Davies as wing-backs. However, the gamble failed and the Toffees suffered another loss. The Italian boss may well stick with the same formation but maybe use different personnel.
Everton have been poor on their travels of late. A 3-2 win at Fulham in their last away game in the top-flight ended a run of two-straight defeats on their travels. The game saw the visitors concede at two goals for a third straight league match on their travels.
Conclusion
On paper, Everton look to be heavy favourites for this clash. There is no doubt that when everybody is fit the Merseysider’s have a strong team. However, the key absentees have had a major effect on them of late. We are going to avoid the win market and instead focus on the goals market.
Burnley may never face a more generous defence than Everton’s, as the visitors have conceded at least two goals in six of their previous seven games in the top-flight. With that in mind, we are backing over 2.5 goals scored. The other bet we are recommending is both teams to score. Once again due to Everton being dangerous going forward and woeful in defence.
Verdict: We are back over 2.5 goals at evens and both teams to score at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
