Prediction & odds for the game: Burnley (5/2) v Wolves (6/5) – ST is backing the away win
When: Monday, 21st December @ 5.30pm K.O
Where: Turf Moor
Burnley will host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday Night Football with both hoping to make a statement to the rest of the Premier League.
Burnley
Even though it’s been a relatively poor start to the campaign for the Clarets, something about “happy place, happy place Turf Moor” seems to have resonated with the club in a big way. Obviously that isn’t the only reason why they’re playing better in recent weeks but as we look ahead to the rest of the season, it does feel as if the power of the fans is going to be one of the main contributions that Sean Dyche will look to for help in their relegation scrap.
While they may have been served with a 5-0 thrashing by Manchester City, that’s the only loss Burnley have had in their last six games. They drew with Brighton, Everton and Aston Villa, and they proceeded to surprise a lot of pundits with wins over Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
Wolves
The win over Chelsea gave Wolverhampton Wanderers fans the belief that they could, potentially, push for yet another 7th place finish this season – and perhaps even higher. They may have lost Raul Jimenez through injury and Jota & Doherty through transfers, but that doesn’t appear to have harmed them quite as much as many would’ve thought. They’re still trying to figure out what their best starting XI is but when it clicks into place, they’ll be off to the races.
Before the aforementioned win over the Blues, Wolves only other triumph of note was against Arsenal – and aside from that, they seemed to continue their trend of not performing to the best of their abilities in a consistent enough matter. They drew against Southampton which was a decent enough result, but they had their hearts broken in a defeat to rivals Aston Villa which came after losses to Leicester and Liverpool.
Conclusion
Wolves always seem to stumble after a big win and we think that inconsistency will lead to a really competitive game against a Burnley side that is starting to go from strength to strength. We believe that Nuno’s men are still going to come away with all three points but it isn’t going to be easy, and we think they could even wait until the final few minutes before scoring the winning goal.
Our official prediction is going to be 2-1 Wolves, meaning that the over 2.5 goals bracket will be met – and while you may think this will be a dull encounter, we wouldn’t be too quick to judge these teams.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 6/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4 (All odds are taken from bet365).
