Prediction & odds for the game: Stoke (11/2) v Tottenham (1/2) – ST is backing the away win
When: Wednesday, 23rd December @ 5.30pm K.O
Where: Bet365 Stadium
Championship side Stoke City will attempt to keep their strong Carabao Cup run going when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Stoke
While they may no longer play in the top flight of English football, it certainly seems as if the future is looking bright once again for Stoke City Football Club. In addition to their strong run in the cup they’re also challenging for a place in the top six down in the Championship, and one thing we’ve all come to know about the Potters is that once they manage to break into the big time they do tend to stay there for a good few years.
After just about scraping past Blackpool on penalties in the first round many critics wouldn’t have expected Stoke to beat rivals Wolves – but that’s exactly what they did. They went on to edge past Gillingham in the third round, and then against Aston Villa, they picked up another Premier League scalp with their third consecutive 1-0 win in the competition.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the style of football being played under their Portuguese leader, but based on how things have gone so far this season, it’s difficult to really determine what direction the club is going in. If we want to get answers to that question, we’re going to have to wait and see whether or not they can turn their current fortunes around between now and May.
After Leyton Orient were forced to forfeit their third round tie against Spurs due to COVID-19, Tottenham went on to battle London rivals Chelsea in the fourth round. After a hard fought game they were finally able to dispatch of Jose’s former club on penalties, thus lining up the tie that we’re discussing today.
Conclusion
Despite some of the setbacks that Tottenham have endured in recent weeks, we think that Jose Mourinho is going to be incredibly focused on the idea of winning silverware with Spurs. As such, we believe this is going to be a textbook Jose performance – which isn’t exactly going to blow the masses away when they’re playing against a Championship side. We’re backing Tottenham to win and book their place in the semi-finals of this year’s Carabao Cup.
Our scoreline prediction is going to be a somewhat dull 2-0, ensuring that we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket – and no, we don’t think this is going to be the world’s most attractive game of football.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 1/2 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 27/20 (All odds are taken from bet365).
