Prediction & odds for the game: Aston Villa (6/1) v Tottenham Hotspur (2/5) – ST is backing the away win

When: Wednesday, 13th January @ 8.15pm K.O

Where: Villa Park

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur will both attempt to keep their push for a strong top six finish going when they meet in the Premier League this week. However, it must be noted that Spurs may wind up playing Fulham in their rescheduled game due to a COVID-19 outbreak within Villa’s squad.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa may not be back to the lofty heights that some of their fans will remember from back in the day, but they’re certainly in a far stronger position than they were at the end of last season. Dean Smith has been able to take them from relegation contenders to top six challengers in a matter of months, and even though some critics expect the wheels to fall off between now and May, their incredible resolve and determination simply cannot be undervalued.

Back to back 3-0 wins against West Brom and Crystal Palace over Christmas represented the very best that Villa have to offer, but outside of that, they haven’t been winning a whole lot lately. They drew 0-0 with Burnley, edged out a 1-1 draw against Chelsea that they probably should’ve won, and fell to consecutive defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool to kick off 2021.

Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur feel like a club in the midst of a rebuild, which is odd to say when they’ve got the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale residing within their squad. Some fans are happy with the current state of the club and others want to see a change in direction from Jose Mourinho, and that split should make for quite an intriguing rest of the season for a team that had previously been tipped to push for the title.

The 2-0 defeat against Leicester seemed to awake something in Tottenham, and since then, they haven’t lost. They beat Stoke and Brentford to progress into the Carabao Cup Final, played out a competitive 1-1 draw against Wolves, eased to a 3-0 win over Leeds and battered the resilient eighth tier Marine 5-0 in the FA Cup.

Conclusion

It’s pretty easy to map out what the strategy of Tottenham Hotspur is going to be in close games like this, and as such, we’re expecting a fairly defensive showing from a side that still hasn’t quite figured out the balance they want to strike this season. Villa are going to push forward and they’re going to give it their all but for whatever reason, we just don’t think they’re going to break Spurs down. Therefore, we’re going for a Tottenham victory – and the same would be true if the game is against Fulham.

Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 1-0 to the visitors, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals marker.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 2/5 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/8 (All odds are taken from bet365).
