Prediction & odds for the game: Manchester United (13/8) v Liverpool (13/8) – ST is backing the away win
When: Sunday, 24th January @ 5pm K.O
Where: Old Trafford
Old rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will meet again on Sunday with the winner booking their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Manchester United
The rise of Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pretty gradual, but it finally seems like we’re at a point where they are once again rising up as top contenders in English football. How long they can sustain that for is anyone’s guess but right now they’re on top of the world, and they intend to stay there. They aren’t necessarily even playing their best football, either, but they’re getting results – and that’s all that matters.
The 2-0 defeat to Manchester City may have brought their Carabao Cup hopes to an end but aside from that, it’s been a pretty good time to be a Manchester United fan. They’ve beaten Aston Villa, Burnley and Fulham, they drew 0-0 against the Reds in the league, and they beat Watford in their FA Cup third round game.
Liverpool
Liverpool Football Club are in trouble right now and there’s no point in pretending like that isn’t the case. Jurgen Klopp knows and understands the position that his team is in, and if they don’t fix it soon, they can forget about making a push for the title. Some fans think they should really go for it in the FA Cup so that Klopp can try and add another piece of silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet, but they probably aren’t even the favourites here.
The win over Aston Villa’s youngsters in the FA Cup third round was quite literally the only positive of the new year for Liverpool. They finished off 2020 with draws against West Brom and Newcastle before losing to Southampton, drawing against Manchester United and losing their unbeaten home record against Burnley.
Conclusion
For the second time in what feels like a matter of days, Manchester United and Liverpool are going to meet – and this time, we think Liverpool will be able to edge out the win they do desperately need. United are finally in a position where they can challenge for the Premier League title again and we don’t think they’re going to put that at risk for the FA Cup. Therefore, we’re backing Klopp’s men to come out on top.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-0 Liverpool, meaning we stick to the under 2.5 goals market. To be honest, we don’t think it’ll be particularly exciting, and we truly apologise in advance for that.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 13/8 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/1 (All odds are taken from bet365).
