Prediction & odds for the game: Chelsea (6/10) v Wolves (9/2) – ST is backing the home win
When: Wednesday, 27th January @ 6pm K.O
Where: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers will meet at Stamford Bridge this week with both sides being in desperate need of a victory.
Chelsea
It’s a new dawn and it’s a new day for Chelsea Football Club with Frank Lampard being sacked as manager. The expectation is that Thomas Tuchel will be the man to come in and replace him which, in itself, should serve as a pretty interesting contrast from their legendary former midfielder. Many believe that Lampard wasn’t given enough time to make a real impact and we tend to agree, but such is the nature of being in charge of the Blues.
After being somewhat fortunate to come away with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, Chelsea were really put in their place in a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City to kick off 2021. They proceeded to beat Morecambe and Fulham in the FA Cup and Premier League, but were put straight back down again by Leicester who eased to a 2-0 triumph at the King Power Stadium. They did beat Luton to progress into the FA Cup fifth round, but it wasn’t enough to save Frank’s job.
Wolves
From European contenders to being on the verge of a relegation scrap, things have been going steadily downhill for Wolverhampton Wanderers for quite some time. A large chunk of the blame has been placed onto the shoulders of Nuno Espirito Santo and while we don’t think it’s entirely fair to put it all on him, we do think he could be at risk of losing his job if he doesn’t start picking up big results.
The last minute defeat to Manchester United was bad, but you could make the argument that the 3-3 draw against Brighton was even worse. Nuno’s men did manage to bounce back with a win over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, but they took another two steps back by losing to Everton. Then, in the biggest sin of the season thus far, they lost the Black Country derby to bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion. Sure, they beat Chorley in the FA Cup, but you could argue they were massively outplayed by a team in the sixth tier of English football.
Conclusion
The impact of a new manager coming in, or at the very least being on the verge of coming in, needs to be taken into consideration here as Chelsea prepare themselves for a whole new chapter. We think they’re going to end up in a bit of a war against a Wolves side who, in equal measure, desperately need to start getting some points on the board if they want to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle. In the end, though, Chelsea should have what it takes to pick up the win.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 6/10 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
