So, gameweek 21 was one to forget for many FPL bosses, with several popular assets benched or missing from their respective teams. In keeping with the general gameweek, our picks did not produce major hauls. We are hoping for a slightly more productive and stable gameweek in 21. Here are our picks of the week:
Hector Bellerin (Arsenal, £5.1m)
The Spanish full-back is finally looking like the player he promised to be at the start of his career. It is easy to forget that Bellerin is still only 25. In recent months Arsenal have become far more solid in defence, with the full-back collecting three clean sheets in his last four starts.
Earlier in his career, Bellerin was a marauding full-back, but his defensive abilities left a lot to be desired. However, it appears that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has helped Bellerin become a more disciplined defender. He has still produced three assists this season, though, so those attacking instincts have not completely disappeared.
Arsenal’s chances of picking up a clean sheet in gameweek 21 look good, as they travel to Wolves, who have failed to score in their last two gameweeks.
Stuart Dallas (Leeds, £4.8m)
In terms of defensive assets, few offer better value than the Northern Irish international. Dallas often plays in midfield, which has contributed to his four goals and two assists this season. Leeds don’t keep many clean sheets, but his attacking returns make him worthy of selection for gameweek 21.
In fact, not just gameweek 21 for a home game against Everton, but he looks to be a season keeper if he stays fit and injury-free. For prove how much of a good pick Dallas is, we have selected him for a second straight week in our picks.
James Maddison (Leicester, £7.3m)
Here at Soccertimes, we have a thing for Leicester midfielders, as the Foxes stars just provide such good value for money in a team that likes to play attacking football. This gameweeks pick from Leicester’s midfield is James Maddison. The England international has been in a rich vein of form of late.
Maddison has now produced three goals and an assist in his last five Premier League appearances, failing to produce an attacking return in just one of those matches. A visit to goal-friendly Fulham on Wednesday evening looks perfect for the attacking midfielder to continue his recent stellar attacking form.
Callum Wilson (Newcastle, £6.7m)
The former Bournemouth player has usually offered decent value for money in the mid-range striker category. Despite a decent scoring record earlier in the season, the England international headed into the Magpies weekend game at Everton on a run of seven games without scoring. He put that right in good style, netting a brace and looking dangerous throughout.
It was not just his goals that looked promising, but the style of play from Steve Bruce’s team. Unlike in previous games, they did sit back and defend. Instead, they pressed the opposition and were far more dangerous for their adventure. With it now looking like he could finally get some service in attack, Wilson looks a steal at £6.7m with a home game against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
