Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (8/15) vs West Ham (17/4)
We are backing Marcus Rashford as an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10
When: Tuesday, 9th February 2021, Kick-off 19:30
Where: Old Trafford
On Tuesday night, Manchester United and West Ham go head-to-head at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fifth round, as former United boss David Moyes returns to Old Trafford in the opposition dugout.
Manchester United
The Red Devils head into this game on the back of a frustrating 3-3 home draw with Everton in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were leading until deep into stoppage-time when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored an equaliser.
The draw means that the home team have won just one of their last four games in all competitions. United have looked vulnerable in defence of late, as they have now conceded at least two goals in three of their last five matches in all competitions.
The Red Devils have a good recent record in the FA Cup, winning five of their last seven in normal time and one in extra-time. Solskjaer’s team have already seen off Watford and bitter-rivals Liverpool in the previous rounds this season.
United have a strong recent home record in the FA Cup, winning their previous nine games at Old Trafford in the competitions. Their last home defeat in the FA Cup was back in 2015 against Swansea City.
West Ham
The Hammers are enjoying a strong campaign and look to be contenders for a top-six spot in the Premier League. Last time out they drew 0-0 at Fulham, with midfielder Tomas Soucek receiving a controversial red card late on at Craven Cottage. The draw may have been disappointing considering that the Irons had the chance to move into the Champions League spots. However, it does mean that the Irons have lost just once in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
The Hammers recent games have been relatively high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six matches in all competitions. The run of high-scoring games ended with the result at Craven Cottage.
West Ham have had mixed fortunes in the FA Cup of late, but have now won four of their last six games in the competition after recording victories over Stockport County and Doncaster Rovers this season. Despite winning their last two away games in the FA Cup, they have won just three of their previous nine outings in the famous old competition.
The Hammers have a poor recent away record at Manchester United, as the visitors have not won at Old Trafford in 15 meetings in all competitions.
Conclusion
Manchester United seem to have found decent form of late in the Premier League, in front of goal anyway. West Ham have also been decent form and may push the Red Devils in a similar manner to Everton last time out. We do believe that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team will record a victory. However, the odds on a home win are not great.
Instead, we are going to the goals market. One of the bets we fancy is Marcus Rashford to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10. We are also backing both teams to score, as both teams have been relatively prolific, while United looked defensively vulnerable last time out.
Verdict: We are backing Marcus Rashford to an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10 and both teams to score at odds of 8/13 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
