Prediction & odds for the game: Leicester (17/20) v Brighton (3/1) – ST is backing the home win
When: Wednesday, 10th February @ 7.30pm K.O
Where: King Power Stadium
Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion will meet in the fifth round of the FA Cup this week with the winner reaching the quarter-finals.
Leicester
Leicester City fans are eagerly watching and waiting to see whether or not this season is going to serve as a case of deja vu. Last season they were in an incredibly strong position in the league before falling away in the second half of the campaign, and you could argue they’re at serious risk of the same thing happening this time around. When it comes to the FA Cup, though, it could be a great opportunity for Brendan Rodgers to bring some silverware back to the King Power.
Leicester were able to kickstart their FA Cup journey with a dominant win over Stoke City in the third round, and then in the fourth, they were forced to come from behind in order to beat high-flying Championship side Brentford 3-1.
Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion are really starting to hit their stride this season, and even though they’ll probably still be in a relegation battle between now and May due to the strength of the league, they’re still a really fun team to watch. There’s a solid foundation within their squad and if they can add one or two impact players in the summer they’ll be in a great position to push further up the table – but for now, bettering their semi-final run in the 2018/19 FA Cup should be a real target.
Getting to this point hasn’t been the easiest equation for the Seagulls to solve, starting with a nervy penalty shootout triumph over Newport County in the third round. They were then paired up against Blackpool and, in another slugfest, they just about came away with a 2-1 win.
Conclusion
It’s always tough to try and predict what’s going to happen in an all-Premier League tie in the FA Cup because both teams will have different priorities for the season. In this case, both Leicester and Brighton still have quite a lot to fight for – and the cup wouldn’t necessarily be viewed as their first priority. Therefore, we think it’s going to come down to sheer ability and who wants it more on the night, which is why we’re backing Leicester to just about edge it.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 1-0 Leicester, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket – but we do think there will be a whole lot of attractive football on display.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 17/20 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5 (All odds are taken from bet365).
