Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (5/6) vs West Ham (10/3)
We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5
When: Sunday, 14th March 2021, Kick-off 19:15
Where: Old Trafford
On Sunday night, Manchester United host West Ham at Old Trafford, in a potentially vital top-six Premier League clash.
Manchester United
The Red Devils may now be out of the race for the Premier League title, but last time out in the English top-flight, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team recorded a 2-0 win at arch-rivals Manchester City. The win kept United a point clear of third-place Leicester in the table, but they are still just six points clear of Sunday’s visitors, who also have a game in hand on the men from Manchester. The home side cannot afford to lose this one, as it would leave the door to the teams below them.
Since the derby, United have drawn against Italian giants Milan 1-1 in the last-16 of the Europa League. The draw means United are unbeaten in their last 12 games in all competitions. However, they have struggled for wins of late, as four of their last five matches have finished all-square. One positive for United of late has been their home form, as Solskjaer’s team have won six of their previous nine matches at Old Trafford.
United have some major injury problems with Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek all ruled out. Forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are also fitness doubts, while goalkeeper David de Gea could also miss out as he has been self-isolating.
West Ham
Former Manchester United head coach David Moyes returns to Manchester with a team that are very much on the up. The Hammers are just two points adrift of the Champions League spots and look like realistic top-four contenders this season. A 2-0 win over Leeds last time out means that the visitors have won three of their last four outings in the English top-flight. The game illustrated the Hammers attacking threat once more, as the visitors scored at least two goals in all three of their recent victories.
One factor that may hinder the Hammers top-four is their inconsistent recent away record, as they have won just three of their last seven league games on their travels.
One player who has been key to the Irons recent decent league form has been Manchester United loanee, Jesse Lingard. The 28-year-old has scored four goals in his six Premier League appearances for the Hammers since his loan switch in the January transfer window. The winger will be missed in this clash.
Conclusion
This is a tough game for the home team, especially with the likely absence of some of United’s attacking players. West Ham are of course without Lingard, so both teams are at a slight disadvantage. The first bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals scored, again due to the likely absence of the attacking players. The other bet we are recommending is the draw.
Verdict: We are backing under 2.5 goals under 10/11 and/or the draw at odds of 13/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
