Prediction & odds for the game: Manchester United (8/13) v Brighton (9/2) – ST is backing the home win
When: Sunday, 4th April @ 7.30pm K.O
Where: Old Trafford
Manchester United’s outside hopes of a title push will be met with Brighton’s surge for survival when they meet at Old Trafford this weekend.
Manchester United
Manchester United can see where they want to be and they know it’s within touching distance, and now, it’s just about putting the final pieces in place to really get there. Between the Europa League and securing a place in the top four we’d say the Red Devils are in a fairly decent position, but resting on it would be the biggest mistake they could possibly make. We’ve seen them lose games like this before, and it’s not crazy to think it could happen again.
The defeat to Leicester in the FA Cup really did take the wind out of Manchester United heading into the international break but prior to that, their defensive record was looking quite stellar. They drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace, beat Manchester City, beat AC Milan over two legs and even pushed past West Ham in an impressive set of results in March.
Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion appear to be slowly but surely edging away from the Premier League’s relegation battle but they certainly can’t afford to get too complacent in a league as unpredictable as this one. Graham Potter has done a solid enough job up to this point of really steering the club in the right direction but there are absolutely still questions to be answered about what their direction is heading into what should be an interesting summer transfer window.
Looking back a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa probably wasn’t quite as impressive as it initially seemed, especially when it was followed up by desperate losses to Crystal Palace, West Brom and Leicester. However, in a push to really improve their position, they strung together consecutive wins over Southampton and Newcastle in an incredible six-day run.
Conclusion
Brighton have been known to give United a bloody nose in the past and we’d be pretty surprised if they don’t do the same here, especially with survival in sight – depending on who you ask. Still, United are a whole lot more efficient now than they’ve been at any point during the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era, and we think that’s going to translate into a really solid performance. United should get the three points with a little bit of pushback from the Seagulls.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 1-0 Manchester United, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 8/13 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
