Prediction & odds for the game: Aston Villa (8/1) v Manchester City (4/11) – ST is backing the draw
When: Wednesday, 21st April @ 8.15pm K.O
Where: Villa Park
Aston Villa and Manchester City will meet in an important Premier League clash in the second city on Wednesday night.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa started off the season like a house on fire but haven’t been able to keep up that momentum all the way through the campaign, leaving them hovering around midtable heading into the final stretch. Dean Smith will still undoubtedly be pleased with the progress his squad has made but in the summer, he’ll be sure to try and strengthen them for what could prove to be a wide open Premier League season in 2020/21.
The 3-1 comeback win over Fulham at the start of the month brought a poor spell of form to an end for Villa which, in itself, was enough to leave fans breathing a big sigh of relief. Their last outing was a really entertaining back and forth game against Liverpool but unfortunately for the Midlanders, it was the Reds who popped up with a late goal to win back the bragging rights.
Manchester City
The elephant in the room is clear – Manchester City are part of plans to form a breakaway European Super League and the football world is absolutely furious about it. The entire situation feels pretty chaotic and instead of fans being excited about potentially winning three trophies this season, they’re instead worrying about the future of their club and what comes next for them in the final months of the campaign.
City were on cloud nine less than a week ago when they knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the UEFA Champions League and progressed into the semi-finals of the competition. Alas, that joy only lasted for a few short days after they were edged out by Chelsea in a 1-0 FA Cup sem-final defeat.
Conclusion
Even though Manchester City could still enjoy a pretty historic season, the fact that the entire future of European football has been thrown into doubt will surely play on the mind of Pep Guardiola. Villa, on the other hand, will want to go out there and make a real statement in the same way that Leeds did by holding Liverpool to a draw. We’re expecting an intense and feisty affair that ends in both sides sharing the points.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 1-1, meaning we stick to the under 2.5 goals marker. We’re expecting phases of tension given everything that’s happened in the last few days, but we’ll still get some moments of magic to savour.
Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 15/4 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 (All odds are taken from bet365).
