Prediction & odds for the game: Liverpool (1/4) v Newcastle (9/1) – ST is backing the home win
When: Saturday, 24th April @ 12.30pm K.O
Where: Anfield
Liverpool’s pursuit of Champions League football next season goes on as they prepare to meet Newcastle United at Anfield.
Liverpool
Now that the European Super League debacle has been put to one side, Liverpool Football Club can focus on the task at hand: securing Champions League football for next season. They’ve only got a handful of games left to try and accomplish that feat and while many believe they’re the favourites to do so, they do have a tendency to drop points when we all least expect it. Jurgen Klopp is a determined man, though, and he’ll be sure to get his squad focused on what’s ahead.
Liverpool’s game against Leeds on Monday night felt particularly strange in the aftermath of the ESL being announced less than 24 hours prior. Still, they looked good for long spells and even managed to go ahead, only for their lead to evaporate late on with Leeds grabbing a crucial equaliser.
Newcastle
Newcastle United fans will be feeling pretty confident about their ability to survive and potentially even thrive next season in the Premier League, but there are still questions surrounding Steve Bruce and whether he’s the right man for the job on Tyneside. He’s clearly had some decent moments with the Magpies but they’re a club with serious aspirations – and it doesn’t feel as if they can meet them with Bruce at the helm.
Newcastle fans wanted to see a bit of grit and determination in their play and after the win over Burnley, they really stepped it up against West Ham United. The Hammers were as sturdy as they come and even scored twice, but the Magpies won 3-2 to vault themselves clear of the bottom three.
Conclusion
Logic dictates this is Liverpool’s game to lose and while we’ve seen more than a few surprises pop up for both teams this season, we do tend to believe that the Reds will be the ones who come away with all three points. It’s likely going to be quite a nervy affair with Newcastle sitting deep and Liverpool being the ones who push forward, but it isn’t going to be the goalfest we all want. Klopp’s side will claim the victory, but the fight for the top four goes on.
Our official scoreline prediction is 1-0 Liverpool, ensuring we stick with the under 2.5 goals bracket. Of course, there’s every chance that one goal could be a beauty, but in the grand scheme of things this isn’t likely to be overly entertaining.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 1/4 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/8 (All odds are taken from bet365).
