Prediction & odds for the game: Manchester United (7/4) v Liverpool (7/5) – ST is backing the away win
When: Sunday, 2nd May @ 4.30pm K.O
Where: Old Trafford
Manchester United will attempt to put a dent in Liverpool’s top four hopes when the old rivals meet on Sunday.
Manchester United
Manchester United seem destined to finish in second place in the Premier League this season and when you combine that with a potential Europa League trophy, we’d say they’re on track to have a pretty strong campaign. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to secure a piece of silverware especially after the rollercoaster ride of a season they’ve had, and it’s just a case of figuring out whether or not they’ve got the stomach for it.
After a sensational run of form in recent weeks, United took a step back with their 0-0 draw against Leeds last Sunday. Still, even after not getting the win, they still managed to pluck up the courage to absolutely decimate Roma 6-2 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie.
Liverpool
Liverpool fans will be well aware of how disappointing their season has been and they’ll know all of the reasons why that’s been the case. Unfortunately, none of that matters right now, because they just need to focus their attention on securing Champions League football next season. It’s not going to be easy given how congested things are in the top eight right now but if they can surprise the masses and win this game, they’ll be right back in the mix.
The Reds just can’t seem to get out of their own way and while that can have many different meanings, we’re talking specifically about how they keep drawing games of football. They drew 0-0 with Real Madrid to ensure they didn’t make it into the Champions League semi-finals, they drew 1-1 with Leeds in a game they should’ve won, and they conceded a late equaliser to Newcastle which leaves them on the outside looking in at the top four battle.
Conclusion
Even though Liverpool don’t exactly have the best record against United, we still think there’s a chance for them to come away with a positive result here – but it has to require patience. They can’t go flying out of the gates and expect not to be punished for it but at the same time, they can’t afford to sit back and be too conservative. We’re expecting them to frustrate the hosts before striking on the counter, securing a narrow and rare Old Trafford win in the process.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 1-0 Liverpool, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket.
Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 7/5 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/1 (All odds are taken from bet365).
